We stayed in Charlotte Harbor, till I get more comfortable with the boat and make sure everything is lined out. Then hopefully when things cool down a little we can head offshore. My sons boss said they have been catching quite a few grouper and snapper in the deeper water in the gulf.

After owning a plane, and now pretty much going thru everything in the new to us house. I’m pretty much just numb to the money outflows.
When I bought the boat I new I was going to be putting some money into it, to get it were I wanted. As long as there are no surprises with the engines I’ll be Ok.

No weather info, just the marine radio. I do have radar, but it’s only good to keep me from running into things.
I may register again for foreflight, I used it in my plane and got adsb weather on it. No farther than we are going now we can just look on our phones. Or at the sky.

Get off my lawn!

When I was in high school my parents "invested" in a bass boat. They left to go fishing every weekend at the cabin they rented on the lake. I was really crushed to be 16 and no parents at home all weekend. They were out there fishing almost every single weekend.
We ate a lot of fresh caught bass and crappie back then. Dad figured it was about $200 per pound for those fish. They sold it to make the down payment on the house they bought when dad retired.

Just a update, the boat is doing fine. I’ve started going offshore now. Even though I had the upholstery redone the helm seat is just not comfortable, so I ordered a new one. And I’m planning on few other things as I find what I want.
This is my grandsons first Grouper, it’s small and we had to throw it back, but hey, it’s a grouper. ![]() We caught one keeper grouper, a bunch of snapper, grunts, and some others I don’t know what they were. This was yesterday, fish tacos today! And I only burned 62 gal of gas.

That’s what it’s all about! Lucky SOB, my boat is in winter storage. I was just thinking this morning how much I miss the lake.

Hey dmcummins, you are living my dream brother. Make that boat exactly what you want. I have been going down to Naples, FL for over 30 years. Live in Tulsa, OK, but about ready to buy me a part time place down there. I love the water, fishing, etc... Living the life you are sir. Maybe you can teach me a few things one day.

I added a anchor roller, and a couple of cleats to the front. Also a rod holder and a table for the back.
I’ll probably get a windlass, but for now my son can go up there and drop the anchor if needed. With the roller it makes it a little easier. ![]() ![]()

Do you anchor much? Being a lake boater I spend a lot of time at anchor, a windlass is a requirement for my next boat.

I’ve looked at the good windlass company. Their windlass with 600’ of line would run me about $2500. I would need to work on my front hatch to make it work and wire everything up. I may go that route if I find I’m anchoring a lot. Maybe next year. The new helm seat was kind of expensive and I’ve spent quite a lot on the boat already.

The instructions for my windlass( manual- not electric)
say it has to be used often to keep it working, and it has to be greased with two different lubricants at different nipples. Just sayin'
