Cheap iphone mount I made
I have been driving my car more lately and figured I could make a cheap mount based on some research on this site.
It's essentially a piece of 1 1/4" aluminum bent, sanded, and painted to fit the contour of the dash and screwed (one screw) into the dash under the visible front-facing surfaces of the dash. The magnetic phone mount itself is on Amazon for $10 and the aluminum was $2 and change. Time spent was 1 hr total probably mocking up the shape, cutting, sanding and painting. It feels pretty sturdy but haven't driven it yet my fingers are crossed it holds on during heavy bumps. It took me awhile to decide where to put the mount I considered mounting it to the bottom of the ashtray, or on the lower part of the dash by the radio. I wanted it comfortably away from the steering wheel and shifter and I don't have a/c so it blocking the air vent was not a consideration. Here's a few pics. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I like this idea. However down here in the south it would be a crime to cove and A/C vent. I may do one like this but a slight bit to the left. cheers

I concur! Great idea and effort but no way I’d cover the a/c vent either. The op is in Nebraska too. I’d think he’d want as much cool air as poss right now(?)

Yes no way would i have put the mount where it is if my ac worked but it is non-functional. The available options are not great as I didn't want it too close to wheel or shifter. The Rennline mount is part of the clock trim which i was worried would be too close to the steering wheel. Anyway quick little project may give someone another better idea.
