you cannot translate true meaning in a thread post.

it so funny.

get five guys sitting around a bar table, (to keep things apple to apples, lets just say they just met) and some guy tells a story..the guy across the table says, "oh, that sounds like bull****"..i bet that conversation happens every minute, worldwide. just some dudes sitting around, chopping it up in a friendly conversation.

now, same conversation on a forum discussion. one guy types, "oh, that sounds like bull****"

hahahhaha.. now it's WAR!! i kinda love it. so funny.

its the power of facial expressions, and body language.

While I completely agree with you, I wonder if adding to the effect is people just enjoying getting in other people's dish (this is an expression that I stole from a friend, bringing to life the image of a dog honing in on another dog's dish while eating).

There appears to be one contributor in particular these days that seems to be very good at triggering people on this forum. I wonder if it is due to being obtuse, or if it is intentional...I think it is likely the latter...

"oh, that sounds like total bull****"

Anonymity seems to empower a lot of people.

No doubt there are several trolls that just live to rile up the others on the forum.

In person, drinking beer at a bar is USUALLY with long time friends, not just random people from all over the country, from every different culture, and every background, and all ages from 18 to 88.

In person with a friend like my business partner I can say things to him that would get me sent to ban island on the forum. And all he would do is laugh, and insult me in return. Neither of us would get even the slightest bit upset or mad, because we know we both have ultimate respect for the other and it is just joking around. Tone of voice and body language is impossible on a forum.

I went out last night with my former boss and a supplier (whom I had not met before). The supplier is a democrat and my boss and I are both republican. We had a friendly banter session about Trump, Biden, Covid, Election, etc... At the end of the evening we went our separate ways and no hard feelings of any kind.

The difference from this get-together and the forum is that nobody was posting links from obscure internet links that may or may not be true. The only time I get argumentative on the forum is when certain people repeatedly post negative attacks and many times with out proof or accuracy. When that occurs, I will engage in a debate. I will sometimes get hostile when the conversation is not respectful (i.e., referring to our president as "Orangeman, tDrump, tRump, etc..) - comments like that automatically set the tone to negative. I won't do that with Biden even if I hate his position on something.

Haha, exactly , I always worry that I have offended someone here. Im sort of a joker and if I like you, I like to pull your strings a little bit . I would expect for you to do the same to me , just like we are two good buddies bsing over beers.
Great post Vash.
Some of the guys here, are great at conveying their good will while they jab at you, while with others, I sometimes wonder, " did he mean that ?"

People definitely say and do things online that they would never do in person.

This is why I put a personal moratorium on political posts on social media. Things people would say back would get them a punch in the mouth in said bar conversation. ...and sometimes those were people I like.

^^^ This. Around 20 years ago, I started using forums. Immediately noticed the haters. I did not like what I saw. I made a promise to myself to not be that guy. I do have a bit of a twisted sense of humor but I really do try not to offend anyone. In "real" life I do the same. Life is too short to be bitter and hateful.

I'm not sure. He can add value and is very intelligent but I feel there is mental retardation at play. Prefrontal cortex type issues.

Well, who's the "one star wonder" around here? Statler or Waldorf?

My rule is that if it's funny, then it's OK. I dont worry about hurt feelings too much. But I'll remind some of you guys that you get hurty feelers pretty damn easy on this forum. A lot.

Your comment/push back is polite and tactful.

No one is owed anything here but simple manners go a long way.

Yup. I have done a lot of sales and BD type work and have spent a lot of time drinking with random people at the bar. I think the average internet warrior is a full on sissy in real life who wouldn’t be willing to say anything in real life. But everybody is tough behind a keyboard.

All I be saying is that how you lay knowledge on peeps is a choice.

Yes on the Browns but not as rabid as during the Red Right 88 / Fumble years. I did get to see Terry Hanraddy play first half in the way way back, though, in pre-season at Municipal Stadium. Bradshaw played 2nd half. I'm thinking it was his rookie year. That was pretty cool.

I think most Browns fans are closet Steelers fans.

Its funny, there are some serious warriors in another forum that mess with the regulars. As far as sissey goes, you never really know whats on the other side of your screen. A forum may be tied into a jail and some big angry ox who is getting off on good behaviour, and some wise guy torques him off, LOL! You never know. LOL!
