I have developed an appreciation fior the BeeGees, but not a love. I remember when I was 10, the big band at that time for me was the Bay City Rollers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BKKaKT_dtM

I know this is about the documentary, but I have a lot of their songs on my playlist. I spent a lot of money to have a good sound system in my retail venues, and their stuff is very "listenable", meaning it puts people into an easy going happy mood...

They started out as a Beatles imitation act. Somehow the rumor went out that they were the Beatles recording under a pseudonym because they were part of Brian Epstine’s management company and “BG” supposedly stood for “Beatles Group”. My family had a huge sheet music songbook called something like “Great Songs of the 60s” that had the lyrics to all of the great songs of that era. I Memorized the words to New York Mining Disaster 1941 and fully believed there had been a coal mine cave-in in 1941. It was hard to reconcile that memory with the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack that came out only a few years later.

Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?
Do you know what it's like on the outside?
Don't go talking too loud
You’ll cause a landslide
Mr. Jones . . . .

I get people my age, (teenagers in the '70s), not liking disco because we were listening to Led Zeppelin or Lynyrd Skinnard at the time but the Bee Gees were stupendously talented and they could sing like the birds in the trees. Their stuff holds up extremely well.

One of my friends was a young guy working for Robert Stigwood in the '70s and he got a producer credit on Saturday Night Fever. It was the start of an incredibly successful life for him, talk about being in the right place at the right time. Certain people just manage to make that happen, though.

The group wrote all of the songs for SNF incredibly fast, in a matter of days. Some in a matter of hours. Their career was in the crapper at the time and to say that they hit that one out of the park would be one of the understatements of the century. And the 20th was a hell of a century.

+1

Robin on the chorus made that song. Massive hook.

Big fan here. And I don’t care who knows it!

Favorite lesser known tunes are nights on Broadway and the Samantha sang song ‘emotion’.

Their career was on the decline but Saturday Night Fever and Disco gave them a fresh start. Not a big fan of them or disco.

Same thing here. Bee Gees, and Kiss had some good dance music for getting the ladies worked up.

I was never a fan either until more recently. But I wonder am I a fan now or is this just music of my youth and it bring back memories of a carefree time in my life and makes me smile? I think it's the later. Either way I enjoy listening to them and many other songs and bands of the time.

Saw them in concert, 1979 (I think) in Cincinnati. Incredible concert! I have never seen girls act so crazy in my life....
Great show, definitely in my top 5 concerts of all time. Probably #2, right after The Stones in Vegas...definitely #1

In the show, they mentioned some of their influences that helped create the falsetto style. Didn't make the connection before but now it seems obvious.

BTW I hated disco, but have always liked the Bee Gees. Good music is good music.

Here's a list of recorded songs that were written by the Bee Gees.
1031 of them.
