I don't get the penalties. The whole point of racing is to be on the ragged edge of crashing in every turn so how are you supposed to tighten your line to give room on the outside when someone makes a bonzi move on the outside?

I agree. Those penalties should not have been assessed. It was not a driver closing the door on an apex, they were doing all they could to get around the corner and using the track width to keep the racing line.

They sure would not have penalized Hamilton in the same situation.

Don't they still use former drivers to rule on these things? Who made the call on this one?

Yes. Derrick Warwick was a steward last weekend

I was citing an example which you read as my opinion of the incident.

Typical of forums. I shouldn't fooking bother.

After watching a couple of explanations on the F1 and other sites, it seems to me the stewards position is: if you push another driver off the track onto a paved surface run off area, that is racing. If you force the other driver off onto gravel, that is dangerous. That seems consistent with other incidents with drivers like Lewis and Max.

I know there is a lot of Hamilton hate around here but a bit of objectivity would be nice.

2020 Austrian GP, lap 60, turn 4, HAM on the inside and ALB outside, they touch and Albon spins off into the gravel. Five second penalty for HAM.

If you go a little further back, 2019 Brazilian GP, lap 70, turn 10, HAM on the inside and ALB outside, they touch and Albon spins off into the grass. Five second penalty for HAM. So at least the stewards hate him consistently too

RBR going really well this season, I'm sure thanks in no small part to Captain's good work.

Oh, that is who Captain is with. Fascinating.

Mercedes has not had competition as successful as Red Bull in many years.

Not quite, I'm not working for RBR, just helping their war efforts

Can I contribute some criticism at Indy car race announcements?

Except for qualifying, why won't they show lap times like any other car race? Instead, they show us time differential between two cars. It's okay to show relative speed between adjacent cars, but that's only a small picture, and gives me little information as to overall lap times, the relative speed between all cars. Thus, we have no idea of who's faster unless the announcer says something (which they manage to do on occasion). I think they do that to avoid embarrassing the end part of the field.

And why all the attention paid to Jimmy Johnson who, while he has an abundance of commercial air time selling stuff, also spends a lot of time arears, being past or immobile on the side of the track. Indy must have an abundance of NASCAR fans.

I may be in the minority, but I kinda like Brundle's F1 commentary. He's very good describing what goes on technically as well as from a driver's POV. The rest of Sky's announcers are good too, good enough w/o diving into geekdom. Their brogue accents don't both me too much.

The woman announcer they have for practice days is good. She sounds knowledgeable and asks the right questions. She could replace Diffy at Indy races. However, Diffy is a versatile announcer despite an annoying (to me) tone. He does his homework on track and field programs (knows the names and bg info). Maybe he has a good production staff feeding info to him.

Indycar is trying to bring in NASCAR fans with Johnson’s notoriety. I agree it is excessive and tiresome. Carvana brings in the bucks. Jimmy is not having an easy time of it. I wonder what the other drivers think. He may be a benefit to the series but a liability in the races.

Agreed too that Indycar can up its broadcast timing game. IMSA is worse though.

With few notable exceptions, going back and forth between stock cars and open wheelers doesn't seem to work. Older days told a different story with Foyt, Gurney and Andretti. But not so much now. Thinking Patrick, Franchetti, Montoya, etc.

A contemporary exception is Tony Stewart but then again, that's a couple of decades past.

Conversely, F1 driver conquer Indy cars. Still Indy car drivers moving to F1 die on the vine. But even an F1 driver who then raced Indy and finally tried stock cars met is undoing.

So, bringing Johnson to Indy (contrived or voluntary, or both) is just not going to work, especially for a 40 year old. Given 3 or so months of constant training, I could probably be within a half second of Johnson with a top engineer. (Well, could of in my track days.)

If you haven't seen this yet. The diversity study and how F1 will proceed. Merit is no longer the standard. Well merit and a huge bank roll.

Your conclusion or assumption. No mention of merit as it is assumed; same with any high tech industry.

My podium prediction for Silverstone ….. Lando, Gasly and Perez

Ham will be 15 minutes late for formation grid while he looks for Roscoe who is thinking of running away from home.

First time the sprint / qualifying races will be employed.

New tire allocations and tire pressures too.

Well, I think it looks like ***** too. Why would they release a teaser of the ‘22 car? Is this a spec series?

I agree with Ricardo.
