I know it looks bad for Pirelli and it’s dangerous but I really like it when tire failure is a big concern. Makes it even more exciting than a dramatic tire performance drop off.

I'm ok with the Pirelli's crapping out but only when they did. Pirelli had given the teams notice that the medium? tire was good for 30 laps. Bottas had his issues on lap 35ish.

On the other hand if the tires gave up on lap 20 I would have a different opinion.

The reprimand or whatever given to Christian Horner, an honorary Spice Girl, is total nonsense. I watched the pre-race where they were talking about the grid penalty. He didn't say the marshal was rogue. What he was saying was the totality of the circumstance needed to be considered to include whether the marshal was an outlier in the situation. Not that the guy was rogue in the vein of just showing double yellow for the sake of ruining a particular driver's lap.

Also, Horner's analysis of how Bottas did same and Sainz did a slight lift but each got a different penalty, or none in Sainz case, was spot on. It was a crazy situation. DRS light on, green track, yellow then double yellow, and the green light in pit lane visible as well. Maybe it falls on the FIA and not a driver or two.

Clearly there is misunderstanding from even Horner on a marshal’s duties. First and foremost, flag the situation which this person did. A car stopped on track is always covered with a waving yellow. Once deployed marshal calls race control to state flag condition and describe the situation. Marshal continues to cover with the appropriate flag until situation is resolved or until race control directs otherwise.

This idea that Horner has of race control calling flags is laughable. He has been a racer long enough to know situations occur quickly and require quick response. The only fault I can see is the previous corner should have been displaying a standing yellow.

Given that it was at the end of the session, changing track status may not have been possible.

Maybe the should put Horner on a corner for race. Might change is crappy perspective.

I wonder with two races to go and everything on the line does Honda have the ability to turn up the power ? Or are they running at the maximum output already ? If RB doesn't find some speed ASAP they will have a hard time beating Hamilton/Mercedes .

Or does RB pull down force out of the car and tell Max hang on and drive the pi$$ out of it ? Hopefully the last two races will be good .

I don't think Honda has any more power to give. Now, imagine if Max gets taken out this next race getting 0 points, and Ham wins.

Or vice versa.

With LH's luck he won't be taken out.

Has MV used up all his spare engines?

I read last night on one of the F1 sites that Hamilton saved the fresh engine from Brazil for the next two races. In Qatar he used a different, older engine. So he is all good on fresh engines.

I think he has. He took that 20 place grid penalty for a complete power unit already.

Sorta makes Silverstone a much bigger deal than it seemed at the time. A huge point swing for Lewis at that race, he picks up 25 while Max got a big zero. If Max had covered him with a second then he would have 18 more points than current total.

When a penalty is not a penalty.

I'm a big fan of Alpine (since the days of the A110 rally car) and I also like Alonso's attitude (and the fact he beat Schumi back in the day), so I bought myself a little present - a piece of this year's body work - supposedly race used. It arrived the day before he scored his podium ;-) Coincidence ? Just putting it out there as a gift idea... I like it and it's rather inexpensive for a piece of F1.. (f1 authentics)

^^^ love it ^^^

what a great thing to buy, I'm sure it will have been 'race used' as bodywork doesn't last many races before it's scrap or obsolete

should have mentioned you're an Alpine fan as I'd could have gone dumpster diving for you, the team is only a few miles from me

Don’t tease :-) are they really throwing stuff in accessible dumpsters ??? Yes that makes a good gift IMO - im really hoping Alpine can pull off a surprise with the reset. After all they did it before !

For some reason I'd always thought that boundary-layer dimples on the skin of an F1 car was verboten by the rulebook.

If I follow you - could be a result of being encased in resin under a vacuum? Dunno.

Top Gear season premier is at Silverstone with Lando, Seb and Gio, driving their respective makes street cars around the trap. They are challenging the show hosts. Ironically, Seb said, "These old guys don't stand a chance." He's the old man of his F1 compadres on the show. lol
