A few years back, I signed up for a ride in one of these.

"2003-2004 season Jordan F1 car with a 750 hp V10 and a curb weight of only 1,410 lbs."
I ended up doing it twice. Once the driver was Didier Theys, and the second time it was Martin Plowman. One of the times, we had just started out, turned the first corner to the first short straight and Didier goosed the gas. I'm a but over 6'2" and was essentially laying down in the car. When he goosed it, I felt the blood rush out of my feet and legs. It was a VERY strange sensation. And that was not from a dead stop with AWD. Still, it was impressive.

It was worth it. It was a tiny odd little track near the COTA track. I'd have loved to do the ride on the COTA track, but it was setup for the first US GP so not available. I was told that we hit ~150. I was shocked at how the air flowing over helmets caused enough lift for the chin strap to go tight and the helmet to stop pressing on the top of your head. When I'd get in, they'd push down on my shoulders and tell me to slide down as much as possible because my head would block the intake which was for cooling. There was an old guy that showed up, but he had a bit too much girth and was unable to squeeze into the car.

Holy sheet! I've seen the 2 place Indy car on TV, but didn't have a clue that one existed. A ride to remember for a lifetime.

I don't have video of my run, but this is video from someone else within a day or two of my run. It doesn't seem like much in the video, but it was freakin' awesome! I did it the first time, and it was so cool, that the missus let me sign up and do it again.

Wow! I'd say that video shows well how much quicker that car is than a
supercar of any maker. Like comparing a warbird to a commercial passenger aircraft. Naw, that's not it. Really just no comparison...

(edit) Couldn't help but note the video title. Jenny's ride. This old 60's hit popped in my head.

Not sure I understand, the 2020 Turbo beats the P100D on the drag strip, the 2021 Turbo S would kill any Tesla.

the 911 turbo does the 1/4 mile in 9.5
the new lucid air (all electric) does it in 9.3
and the new plaid model S does it in under 9.

also the model S is 140k car, the new turbo is 170k dollar car. so its faster, and cheaper.

Cool! Show me the video of the plaid mode Tesla.

Not saying EV's won't be killer as we have seen with the Taycan beating everything:

The Lucid isn’t a real car yet, so wait until it’s real. The Tesla is epic fast but only for a short period of time, they are pretty notorious for diminished power after a few runs. EVs also run out of steam at higher speeds so it depends on the nature of the race. Also hurts things like extended performance on a racetrack.

you can go online and watch race after race without the tesla slowing down. its about 2% battery loss per run, and the car doesnt start pulling power until below ~35%

so, you have 25-30 runs before you have to plug in again. i dont know of any sub 100k dollar car, that runs 9s, that can do it 25 times without MAJOR overhaul.

ICE is dead at the drag strip. at least for street cars.

None of the cars being discussed are drag racing cars. Teslas are amazing but there is no comparison between any of them and the performance of the new 911 turbo, doing what it is designed to do.

Wait hold on a few tenths of a second, has any stock tesla been anywhere near UNDER 9 seconds in the real world?

Or even these back to back 9s passes? I dont claim to be an expert here but all I see are low 10s passes from teslas and taycans.

Didn't know that. What is the top Tesla's time around the Nurburgring?

The new 911 turbo, (and every Porsche ever built), was not designed for drag racing.

you cited drag racing speeds. this was about drag racing. idk why you picked drag racing to start the thread, its dumb, but you picked it. and the tesla is better at it, full stop.

also if you want to talk nurburgring times, the turbo isnt the car you want. the turbo is a GT car, not a track rat. if you want the track car, the GT3RS is the one you want.

Actually, the opening post was 0-60, not 1/4 mile ET...
