Do you like 'cutting the grass'?

It's one activity that I love to do. I can't imagine paying someone else to do it.
Especially on a day like today. 72degrees, cloudy and a slight breeze...perfect!
The JD 335 with the power steering and cruise control makes it fun.
My only complaint is that using the cupholder in the fender makes the beer so flat that it's like drinking an opened beer...two days later.

There are three trees in the pic with no leaves yet....too early in the season.

I have a little over an acre, when I'm not rushed or pressed to get other projects done, yes I love being on my restored JD 430 diesel. Also my wife likes to be out there w/me pruning, cleaning etc. When we're done celebrate with few ice cold beers

^^^ 1.2 acres here. Takes about 1.5 hrs without trimming.
I don't really care for the trimming part...lol

Beautiful lawn, and riding with cruise in 72º weather does sound nice.

OK, now switch to a rough, bouncy 3-4 acres (almost 6 acres, but not everything gets mowed) and temps between 95 and 105 with high humidity and the sun beating down on you.

There are times when it's enjoyable in a zen sort of way. There are other times when it's miserable. In the summer, you miss a week because it rains every day for a week, then when you get around to it after 2 weeks, it's like mowing molases and you've gotta go slow so the mower doesn't stall. And it's hot and muggy and the mosquitos are waiting for you and the sun's beating down.

I'm really curious to see how our new property is to maintain this year. So far, no big deal, but we aren't in the prime growing season yet. This might get ugly.

moved in 10 years ago and the previous owner was mowing about 10 of the 13 acres. even with a 72" mower it was most of a day. since then added 3 acres of pasture lots for goats and alpacas, let 3 acres go back to nature and switched to a zero turn. with work from home I knock out the 4 acres during the week over lunch hours. nice break from the day.

Absolutely, zero turn for the win. The sports car of the mowing world. Tons of fun to drive.

Probably more fun to drive if things are flat. I've got to get a pile of top soil delivered and then use the Zero Turn and a trailer to fill in some rough spots. THere are a few spots that are so rough that I crawl over them.

My property is on the top of a hill (might be noticeable in the above pic)....so I never have 'too much rain'
Otherwise...my lawn dries out in the middle of the summer...fast!

This did the trick for 5 acres. Now I'm down to 1/3rd acre so bought an electric rider. Cigar and beer in hand.

I only hired a gardener to cut my small lawn when I started having chest pains that would double me over and I didn't want my wife to know. Cutting the lawn, along with washing the car, were a couple of things I really enjoy as the instant gratification is tremendous. I'm almost back to getting the lawn mower out of the shed and going again. Not really looking forward to pulling the cord but it is what it is. Should have put some Sta-Bil in the tank. I've got starting fluid so that'll help.

Nice, and presumably, you have a much shorter growing season that we do down here.

Well, glad that you're still around to tell the tale! I enjoy washing the car too.

At our old house, push mower, weed eater, blower/broom/rake, I was looking at 2-3 hours during the main growing season in miserable heat and humidity. Or, I was able to pay a company $25/mow (once a week) to do the same job. Yep, $25, and they finished in 7 minutes (2 mowers that could drive like landscaping Senna's and 2 or 3 guys with weedeaters and a blower. 7 minutes!

Yep, we hired those guys and I never looked back. I can't even imagine what it would cost for me at our new property.

I have a 21 inch self propelled walk behind mower, nothing to ride around on.

If I do the full edging of the 1/4 mile of edging, then the string trimmer for the flowerbeds and trees, lots of flowerbeds and tree rings, and them mow, and blow the grass off the porch and sidewalk it is a two hour project.

I do love the instant gratification of looking out and seeing the yard looking great. And a cold beer is pretty much the required payment to myself.

Oh yeah. I just checked the thermometer inside my garage....55 degrees.
The temp outside is 75 degrees. It'll take a week of this type of weather to warm everything up.

I did all my own yard work for 30 years and always took pride in my lawn being the best in the neighborhood. Then one day, I was preparing for a party and decided to hire a gardener to do some of the extra pruning that I needed done. And after that, I hired him to mow & blow the day before the party so I had time to get all the other things done. Well, he's been doing my yards for about 5 years now and I can say he takes great pride and does great work. I finally am able to enjoy my yard and occasionally get to sit around and drink coffee without seeing something that needs doing or pruning.

I hate yard work. the cleaning, the bagging, the mulching...i'm actually not good at it. I am the angel of death to all plantlife.

besides, we now have an impending drought..everyone's hard work is about to go brown.
