Yeah, what world do you want to live in? You like freeway shootouts?

We have discussed the why to a sickening degree here, if you have the magic answer cough it up.

The Second Amendment was culled together using many state constitutions of the day. It's interesting to read each of the state constiutions and see what was used, what wasn't. I did big report on it here years ago and it was very interesting.

Two posts I found, basically the same info but with different intros by me.

Problem is, people committing the crimes are moving (or being moved, in the reason of Social justice) To the areas that previously didn't have issues.

Sure. Perfect response...yes, I encourage freeway shootouts. Good lord.

You have simply shut down on the "why". It is sickening, the violence. Participate in the fix or become irrelevant.

Honestly, there is no magic answer but there is a start. It starts with the real data. We go from there.

You'll participate or not. I am.

Lucky for me I can't even comprehend carrying a gun for self defense while going about my daily stuff. All seems a bit 1800's wild west era.

In the UK I've never once worried or thought that someone may want to shoot at me as I feel safe in my home, neighborhood and all parts of my country I travel around so never worry I'll be threatened with a gun or that I might be a victim of a shooting
How about being stabbed?

Easy answer,

No, never once worried or thought someone might want to stab me either

Again, sure the majority of knife deaths are again inner city ie London gang conflicts

You and others are hung up on my not recognizing the data. I see the data and as I’ve said many many times the problem is systemic and economic in nature, not racial. Assigning a racial element to it is a cop out.

You are the only one assigning a racial element. I don't and won't. Get over yourself.

There is no systemic racism in this country. Zero. Less than zero.

Is there an economic element? Certainly. Why? What happened?

Roughly 1 a week in London for last year and this year, not sure how other individual parts of the country compare but it will certainly be a lot less

2021 could, probably will exceed the record of 28 killed in 2008, this is for a city with a population of 9.5 million

Not sure how that compares as a % with similar sized US cities

I remember a year or two ago (pretty sure it was pre-COVID) when all of the sensationalist U.S. "news" sources exclaimed, with unabashed glee, that London's violent crime rate had then exceeded New York's. I'm not sure by what measures, but they were pretty giddy about it. "Good news" for someone, I guess...

I'll echo what others here have said. You may have noticed that I'm a rather avid shooter. I mostly just "plink" at tin cans and gongs at the gravel pit these days, but at one time I was a pretty avid competitive rifle and pistol shooter. I've hunted across North America and around the world. I've been an NRA instructor, I've attended every notable shooting class in the country, yada yada yada... One could say I'm "into it".

And yes, I have a concealed carry permit. I really never carry, I just have never felt the need. Oh, I've found myself unwillingly having to go into some pretty "high crime" areas and, yes, it did make me feel better to be armed. But, in 40 years of eligibility, I have never once even suspected I might have to start thinking about my gun.

The only place I do actually carry is in the wilderness. I'm still an avid backpacker and day hiker. I'm blessed to live in a region that hosts mountain lion, black bear, grizzly bear, wolves, wolverines, etc. Attacks are so rare as to be very notable when they do occur. Surviving one, even if armed, is even more rare... but I can pretend... or hope... anyway, I just feel better armed.

So, yeah, most of what you hear about American "gun culture" or whatever is pure, unmitigated b.s. Sensationalist reporting meant to sell copy. I, too, spent a career traveling the world, and mostly in Third World countries, in many of which Americans are, shall we say, "less than welcome" (but hey, we got fifty bucks a day "hazard pay"...). I've felt more uneasy in many of those places than I have ever felt anywhere in the U.S., even in our bigger cities, in some of their "more dangerous" neighborhoods. I mean, granted, things do happen, but statistically, those neighborhoods tend to keep it among themselves. Scores to settle, you know... strangers are in little danger.

Facts don't back up your BS, look at pretty much any city, the highest crime rate will be in the Black community.

Prove it. You can't.

Start with the definition of "systemic". Then, if you have time, work in "affirmative action".

Compare the two. Enjoy.

If you have more time, ponder how a systemically racist country fought to end slavery, how 350,000 white men died in that cause. Where are those families reparations, btw, the families who lost fathers and sons? Your thoughts?

12 million slaves left Africa. Less than 380,000 arrived in America. Where did the rest "systemically" go"? Again, your thoughts.

After that, laws were enacted, fought for, in this country. Again, your thoughts on Civil Rights Legislation and other initiatives. Thanks.

Here is what makes me feel better: You get to spew your crap while my family thrives, all of them from all over the planet, as multi-racial as you can possibly imagine.

So. How do we fix the problem?

Stop whining and offer a start.

Man you are angry. Racism, both systemic and good old white boy KKK style racism did not end after the civil war. I have never brought up reparations so I won’t speak on that. Total number of slaves? The fact is 12 million slaves did not voluntarily leave Africa. No telling how many died during travel, were murdered by white folk, or whatever. If your 380k number makes you feel better, whatever. If you are happy with race relations in this country then cool. I think we as a country are headed down a treacherous slope where out and out racism is becoming more normal like it was earlier in our countries history.
