Yep, like that.
I'd love one of these but carrera red like my boxster, but not $5000 worth of "love". ![]() I'd be perfectly happy with a seat like yours or out of my old '88 similarly converted.

I thought this was pretty impressive. I don't know for sure that the guy is doing it "right" but I don't think he's doing it wrong. I think this porch will last another 100+ years.

I'm calling this a win and done.
I will admit the end end grain could be a lot better but I find I just don't have the patience to deal with the small details like that. It doesn't show as it's up against some closet folding doors anyways. At least the top looks presentable now. Here's the 'Before' shot: And the 'After' shot: My wife has yet to pass judgement on it. ![]()

That's lovely wood you've got there. Guys are always wanting to show folks their wood. I suppose if my wood was that nice, I'd be sending pics of my wood to everyone.

Trying to Outguess Mother Nature
Yesterday AM, Environment Canada (our National weather service) forecast three days of hot sunny weather. We make hay for our four equines, so I dropped the small field in front of the house. I figured it would give us about 70 bales. Not a lot, but a start on the 600 required to get them through the winter. This morning, tomorrow changed to showers with the possibility of thundershowers in the late morning. My wife is the hay judge so she suggested we turn it this morning, then again at noon to see if we could get it in after supper. By three o'clock, she was watching the clouds building in the west and suggested we try to get it before supper. I raked up the hay at 3:30, we hooked up the baler at 4 and started in. By 4:45 the first drops fell. We had it (79 bales of decent hay) in the barn by 5:15. Not bad for a couple of old folks.
Ever since Environment Canada got rid of their local forecasters and started doing a computer modeled regional forecast, their ability to accurately predict our local weather has gone right down the toilet. Right now we have thundershowers. Ah the fun of hobby farming. Best Les

Remember the girl from Jurassic Park? Ariana Richards? She's a painter now and some of her renderings are really good.

Unusual find.
This afternoon I was cultivating a piece of ground which had been plowed for re-seeding. As I was passing down the length of the field a spot of the white caught my eye. As I could see it was spherical, I wondered if it might be an eggshell. Then I could see it was covered with dimples. I stopped and picked up...a golf ball. I haven't played golf in decades. My neighbors don't play. The nearest fields are hay fields. The nearest golf course is 12 km. away. Either someone has a HECK of a drive or some bird got disappointed with the lunch it stole. You just never know. Best Les

My wife's birthday is Sunday.
She has to work Sunday. She likes Red Lobster. She is off next Tuesday. I got one of those letters for a free dinner if you listen to our sales pitch at - ta da - Red Lobster, next Tuesday. This counts as taking her out for her birthday, right? Only hitch in the plan. She has a dentist appointment next Tuesday. She has a tooth implant, went to the dentist a while ago, he futzed with it, and the stud broke a day or two later when she was eating potato chips. They still haven't dug out the broken piece of the stud from the implant, that's what they're trying Tuesday. Hopefully more than trying to cut a slot in the top with a dremel and taking a screw driver to it, that sounds like something I would do. Supposedly they have a extractor tool to try, and if that doesn't work, they have to cut her jaw, remove the implant, wait for it to heal, and then do the whole thing over again. That sounds like B.S. to me. |
