There's always middle ground and it is typically found where double standards don't exist and there's consistency in what is done. The NFL is blowing in the political winds in hopes of expanding their market. They made an example of Gruden but don't hold the players, people you say are more valuable than a quality head coach, to the same standards.

There is no double standard. If the public accept something, there's no issue. Half-time shows are accepted, the entertainers are accepted. Gruden failed the public sniff test. Don't blame the league for the choices society makes.

When people stop watching because the players disgust them, or when segments of the NFL target market are at risk, then people get removed. Period. Until then, game on.

Unless there is video evidence, Ray Rice, the media sits on their hands. We as a society have become so inured to so many things (no PARF content from me) that complaining about a half time show is viewed as the essence of fuddy-duddy.

I wish it wasn't true, but there it is.

Gruden's emails were in direct conflict with the NFL's prime directive so his fate was sealed.

BTW, he has made well over a 100 million from the his talent and relationship with the NFL. I would have done the same thing he did except apologize...at that point you are an Ice Cream Vendor on the Titanic.

I heard a rumor that the Washington Post (owned by Bezos) is the one leaking the emails in an effort for the NFL to boot Snyder so Bezos can buy the Washington Football Team.

It is very strange that of the rumored 100,000 emails examined, only these leaked out. And only Gruden was vilified...it would be logical that the league or an official high enough to have access wanted Gruden out. Possibly even the guy he libeled...

If there's no double standard, why not allow Gruden to keep coaching? Why not just fine him and move on? This bullsh.t that he "resigned" is just that... bullsh.t. There wasn't a choice.

I get what you're saying and as I said, I understand the what and the why. But there's a double standard at play here that doesn't sit well with me. Gruden says some things... while players punch or rape women and the players still play? Doesn't make sense.

The double standard you're missing is that he was afforded an opportunity to save some humiliation. A lot of people in lower positions would never get that opportunity.
