I have the opposite problem with ancient Sears openers. They open on their own. I have to kill the circuit with a 2nd remote. I live a mile from a major airport. Don't know.

Yes, my car has a Homelink system in it. Worked fine last time I parked the car in the garage.
The remote I tried in my wife's car is the same as the one I keep at my desk as a spare. It got a new battery and still won't work.

I had something similar happen, I needed to clear all programs on the opener then reprogram the opener to the remotes.

Yeah..those do look old. If you decide to replace them...they are only $20 or so for a matching pair at Lowes.
Not sure...but most of them will plug right in...universal.

I just did a little experiment. I opened the door with the wall switch out by the door. Got it up and then pushed the button to stop it. Pushed again and the door started to come down. Stuck my foot under the door to interrupt the beam and the door stopped and started to open like it should.
That tells me that the sensors are 'GOOD'.
Am I correct?

Have you tried reprogramming the homelink in the car to the opener?

Depending on the age of the opener, there should be a program or learn button. Pressing the button for a few seconds typically clears all remotes from memory and you have to go through and program the remotes again.

BTW, your sensors are good if they work with the wall station.

I'd say 'yes' your experiment eliminated the sensor problem.

Since you have a static code garage door opener, why not just upgrade to a rolling code remote unit?

Something like this.

The verbiage above removes the possibility of a misaligned safety safety sensor. The hard-wired button does not bypass the safety interlocks.

Cycle power to the opener. You have a wireless coms issue.

If it still doesn't work use the reprogram/learn button and reteach it.

OR! You can go the other route and just cuss at the thing. I normally go the cussing route. I find it helps me feel better even though it doesn't fix what I'm cussing at.

I'm going to give clearing the programing and re-learning the remotes a try.

I will try cycling the power to the opener first though as that is easier. :>)

If that doesn't work, whack it with a screwdriver or a hammer. Again... things that rarely ever help but make you feel better.

I haven't used that vacation switch very much, but recently when we leave for an overnight or long day away I will hit it.
Could a blown circuit in the wall switch that has that button on it cause this problem?
The light blinks like it's supposed to when it's in the 'pushed' position.
