When I bought my 914 I asked the dealership where I bought it about the Porsche club of America and he acted like I asked him where the bigfoot club was. With no internet, there was no way to find PCA in 1974.

I joined the SCCA back then and started autocrossing (C-stock and then A-stock) and finally met someone that knew about PCA. I dropped SCCA back in the 70s.

My wife drove several Mercedes so we joined the local Mercedes club for many years and met some great people. We dropped that after 20 years when she sold the Merc.

We had a local group of very handsome, super smart and very modest men that all drove El Camino's that met for breakfast once a month. It was just a local group and no national affiliations. That just fell apart after several years when several key members died or had health issues.

So the list.

SCCA: 1974 914 2.0
PCA: 1974 914 2.0; 1985 911; 2017 Macan
MBCA: 190E; 280SE; E320
Breakfast club for El Camino guys. (No real club name) 1986 El Camino

The only one I still belong to is PCA. 45 years and counting.

!970s SCCA. Never went to a meeting. Some buddies picked up a couple trophies i won autoxing.
1980s NHRA. They had a great weekly newspaper and my permanent competition number included. Have had 4 Vettes but never felt motivated to join a club. Had the Porsche for 6 years but never joined any clubs. I still drag race on occasion and daily drive a Vette but no clubs anymore.

i tend to stay clear of any car clubs based on anything in car culture. they tend to not like people like me. PCA is a joke around here.

but car clubs i am a member of are:

SCCA
Minnesota Autosports Club
International Ice Race Association

i also organize a loose confederation of people, snow plowers, and just all round fabrication people to set up Ice Fun, which is a run anything you want to, on the lake.

I used to be in the Z Club of Houston. I would go to monthly meetings, attend events and all sorts of fun stuff. Now I'm lucky to attend a few PCA DE's a year.

Was asked to prospect for a well known motorcycle club when I was young and dumb enough to actually consider. Rode with them all the time but, thankfully, wised up before it got that far.

During the same time period, active NHRA member.

Later on, AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) member. That earlier club was not affiliated, by the way...

Still later on, HOG (Harley Owners' Group). These proved to be a worse lot than the earlier club, bunch of middle aged RUB wannabes who tried too hard to emulate what they thought that earlier club was. They couldn't have been more wrong. I ran away screaming.

PCA. We have a very, very good chapter in my area. I guess not everyone can say that.

R Gruppe. 20 years now. The best "fit" I have ever found in any kind of a club. Just barely organized enough to even call ourselves a "club". Perfect.

Just the Pelican Porsche club.

I used to belong to the Porsche Club New Zealand but I found them to be the most unlikeable bunch of old wankers I've ever met.
