I don't like a relationship to last much more than three weeks.

I am not sure that I would consider three weeks to constitute a relationship…just an extended date.

So not sure why you are, maybe it's something else you said to trigger that? after all, it is PARF you are talking about ...

Just the tone of his “boomer” remarks in a forum filled with folks from that generation is likely an indicator. When was the last time you saw a “boomer” tee off on their elders (greatest generation)?

I see one significant downside of being single and alone. My grandfather who outlived my grandmother by about ten years died while sleeping in bed age eighty four. It was about four days before people were wondering where old George was. They entered the house and found George. The body was already decaying and there was that smell of death. If you are getting up in age and you are single it is good to have somebody check on you.....

I suspect the traditional, happily married guys is very little fun/excitement as compared to those that chose another path. As far as money, a team of two working together for many decades while sharing expenses is pretty hard to beat. Especially with 2x50+ years of savings, retirement pensions, 401k, and other investments.

As far as intimacy, for a happily married guy, it is a sure thing almost every night…and pretty much any other time the day while many singles go to bars and strike out…or drift between bad relationships. Like a lot of things, marriage is very, very good if done well. It is all about making good choices and commitment. Judging the institution based on those that did not go well is like chugging a cheap, skunky beer and deciding that all beer is disgusting.

Most of the stories you hear from married and divorced guys have another side. You only get one perspective. Both partners have to work on a relationship of any type for it to work. People have bad days and arguments all the time with other people, it just is more painful when you really care about what the other thinks…and if you don’t care, you are probably the problem.

Old folks that I know without a partner seem very lonely. Some day, work is over, playtime is not really a physical possibly, and you are alone.
And you prolly think there’s only one issue of Playboy, too.

Let me just drop this here:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/love-and-sex-in-the-digital-age/201403/baby-boomers-gone-wild-seniors-and-stds

According to the Center for Disease Control, among our senior citizen population, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are spreading like wildfire. Since 2007, the incidence of syphilis among seniors is up by 52 percent, with chlamydia up 32 percent. And this isn’t merely a phenomenon in the United States, as several recent British studies have produced similar results. So apparently the hippy generation has decided to dust off its slightly musty mantra: If it feels good, do it.

Older study but I bet not much has changed. No need to die alone!

Mattered little to me.

I got lucky.

Now, should I goon my marriage after over 30 years, I go Shaolin Temple.
Same way for me. I fished the vast ocean of women and practiced catch and release until my late 30s when I found Mrs. Carrera. If can't imagine life without her.

I have seen several buddies marry some very strange poor choices of women. They were thinking with the wrong head.

oh yeah, its anything out of the ordinary they think they can grab onto an insult me with. its PARF after all. and if you dont have a good argument, better to just personally attack the person. and there is a lot out of the ordinary about me. and i am a child of the internet, so its all out there, i put it out there. why post if you agree with everyone already? only reason to post is something different/weird.

my marital status is just an easy one to accuse me of being feminine, gay, young, or undesirable to women.

which, whatever, is immaterial. my dating life is great. i wouldnt change anything.

Cockerpunk. You seem to be stressing needlessly over worthless comments some others might make about your lifestyle. Like some others on here, I didn't marry until I was in my thirties & the second time in my fifties. I could't have cared less about what others said or thought. My parents, especially my father, were my greatest critics. I lived my life on my terms and was happy for it. You should be too.

If you only have one, it is always the best you have ever had. No matter if several times a day. Always the best.

Plus no chance of disease, child support, or alimony.

Aren’t all issues of Playboy pretty much the same?

This is the only negative, derogatory comment I've seen made on this thread. ....

My Mom, who was married twice and only single for a couple of years between age 25 and 87, (death), used to say, "there are worse things than being alone."

One of my two favorite sayings in spanish is: Mejor solo que mal accompanado, (the other is: La planta vale mas que la plata.)

Paul. Great advice.

I'll never forget why they quit broadcasting lottery winners on live TV in Cali.
The classic questions first, what are you going to? Then are you married?
The guy passes on first question and yells as loud as can be and says; " I used to be".
