Yeah, you gotta watch to the end to see why they posted that warning. Yugghhh.

Wow...I don't know where to start on this one. I understand the normal tendency to react incorrectly in a panic situation, (especially without training), but the idiocy on display here is mind-blowing.
He gave up two marriages and 23 years on that POS?? It would not be worth that if it was an alloy Gullwing or a 917. Seriously...and I say this as an absolute OCD car nut since I was 6 years old...hobbies are not ever worth that. Extreme hobbies are a way to efficiently get from being young and full of promise to old, grey and completely lacking any meaningful experiences in life. I'm not talking about liking cars and having fun with them but rather guys who spend decades, "building a car," especially when it seems like it was engineered by chimps, like this one. What a loser, poor guy. He truly missed the point of being alive, IMO. Moving on from that and back to the car, what a POS. A truly undriveable POS. Not a drag car, not street safe car even if he had not crashed it and about 1000 HP more than that chassis could handle. 300 hp and a good running motor might actually be fun to drive in an old Comet, still a big no thanks from me. What a waste, on so many levels. ![]()

Also, that episode could have been a lot worse. Picture a woman pushing a stroller through a crosswalk or a young family on bicycles with small children following mom and dad...what that guy did was criminal.
At least he was smart enough to film the whole thing and put it on the internet. The lawyers must be laughing their dicks off.

In a panic situation, it's tough for a lot of folks to keep their cool. But this guy seemed to have enough time to have tried a bunch of stuff. "I smell brakes." "Yeah, I've been riding them." WTF?!? Boiled brake fluid will kick your sheiße!

I wonder what the tab is to repair that thing- and I agree with Denis (gasp!) on all points.
I like cars, a lot, in fact it's my identity but no ****ing way would I put myself into a hole that deep with one car. I like old, garage built stuff- scratches the itch, and saves the bank account.

The brake rotors on my 2010 Land Rover LR4 (Discovery 4) are about 3 times the size. Even if something didn't brake, you are taking a huge risk with that weight and power and puny tiny brakes.

Rule #1, if ya build it to go fast, ya gotta make sure it's gonna stop fast also.

One of the upgrades I did for my '81 SC in preparation for track events was a full set of 951 Brembos all around with calipers, rotors, pads, 951 Fuchs, and even cooling ducts for the fronts....stopping was not a problem on that car!

The bigger/better the brakes are, the faster I feel comfortable going in a vehicle. Very simple equation.
The more that I think about this moron idling at 50 mph and riding the brakes, the madder I get. Just luck that he didn’t kill someone. |

I remember (years ago) a story in Auto Week; Andy Granatelli had taken one of his Indycar turbine engines and put it into a Corvette, and the effect was the same as this chump - low speed was controlled by the brakes, not a throttle. Andy's probably lucky he didn't kill someone either, but who knows. Maybe he had a kill switch handy.
(And this guy should have had a kill switch handy.)

How did they settle it with the car they hit, that they could post this idiotic video?
I was driving a 911 one time and the throttle got stuck. I quickly turned off the engine and coasted to the side of the road. Somehow the cruise control or throttle cable came loose. |

Something like this.
![]() That "I'm riding the brakes" was a clue about two miles back.

I sold the car for parts and had to make payments for many months while I walked (could not afford another car). It was the second car I wrecked in about a month in a single car accident...so I guess it was a good way to learn my lesson. Apparently, I needed to be walking. I have had a couple of other wrecks over the next 45 years (where the car was totaled) ...but, none were my fault. In each case, the person that hit me made a really stupid mistake...so I find it hard to really dump on the poor guy in the video accident (as apparently, mistakes are pretty common...or there would not be so many used parts out there in junkyards).

The lawyers are going to love this one.
I can't believe there is not some sort of state inspection they have to pass before a car like this can be driven on the road. Sure fun for the guy playing cars but not very nice for everyone else on the road. |

Man, that was hard to watch - knowing what was coming. I feel sorry for them both. I am still shocked they both chose not to use the shoulder belts. I have the factory lap/shoulder belts in my '71 914-6 and this has me rethinking adding better seat/lap belts.
