One of the things I see often is someone that was in the right lane, and changes to the left lane to pass, as I am approaching, and then takes a few miles to get past. Then, just as they clear the bumper of the slower vehicle, they speed up 10 MPH to make the pass and get over. I have to really haul buns to get around them before they pull back over to the left and slow down to match the speed of the car in the right lane.

I really prefer these type of interstates. No traffic. Just outside of Checotah, OK

Lots of folks don't have any idea how to drive. I've seen the same thing you describe, slowly pass a vehicle, and then once past, accelerate. Once I realize that I'm dealing with one of those folks, I'll put the metal down and get past them. Usually once you get past them, you never have to deal with them again as they fade into your rear view. Lots of folks that pull up and are scared to pass or scared of a jersey wall next to them or whatever. If you're scared, get the hell out of the way.

I remember years ago, having a young guy tell me he wanted a car to be essentially silent and comfy like sitting in a comfy chair in his living room.

I remember another time when a bunch of us from work were taken to a go kart track due to the success of some project and there was one woman and one man that went REALLY slow and stayed way to the outside because the speed, noise, etc.... scared them. Seems weird to me, but then different strokes. I'm sure those folks thought that my behavior was weird.

I had an experience about like ^that^ the other day. After getting through some construction that had the Interstate completely blocked/stopped for 20-30 mins, the traffic trickled back onto the Interstate so slowly that there was probably only 2-3 cars per mile of interstate. It was glorious. I was in the Outback with the missus and grandsons which was probably a good thing, vs being alone in the boxster since I cannot vouch for what I'd have done in the boxster in that situation. That's why I try to use cruise as much as possible, to keep myself out of trouble.

And when you're using cruise, those folks that will match your speed as you try to pass or will come up from behind and then match your speed once they are 1/2 car length ahead of you, are extra irritating.

One trick is to buy the car state cops drive in the same color...left lane cloggers move over more.

If they show no intention of moving over I don't give them a chance and just go around.

Sad story related to this thread.

I drive on a 4 lane divided highway for about 8 miles to work everyday. Last year a guy in a F150 is in the left lane and was pacing the car beside him at the speed limit. I'm in my 996TT and hang back a reasonable distance as the car has a tendency to piss people off. Now with a lot of cars backing up behind me, around the 5 mile mark he pulls over. I pass slowly to get a look at what kind of dick does this. He flashes a badge at me and gives me a hand gesture to slow down. I'm like WTF! I pull behind him and snap a pic of his license plate, pull beside him and give the you will be getting a phone call gesture with my hand.
I call the cops when I get to work and they are very very interested in what went down.
They track him down and he denies nothing other than the badge. Cop call me back after and say thanks for the call as guys like this can get out of hand.

6 month later it happens again. I'm in my truck and behind him. He stays there until I get off the highway. People are freaking and passing on exit and merging lanes. Total caos.

I get to work and make the call to the cops again.

Cop calls me back later that day with a story from hell. (They checked his story out) The guy had a bit of a break down when the cop confronted him and told his story. Turned out his wife and 2 kids had died on the highway the year previous. This wack job was trying to save lives.
The cop gave him a bit of the riot act and the guy coughs up the badge. Promised to never do it again.

Some things are not as they appear and I have to admit I was a little chocked up hearing his reason.

Or they slow down to exactly the speed limit and REALLY impede traffic.

Wow, crazy. Gotta feel sorry for the guy, but you can't deputize yourself.

Many years ago I ran into a particular nutter in a pickup truck that had a problem with me in my miata. I ran into him twice. It was a bit scary as he was in a big truck and willing to swerve towards me and into my lane, and would do some really crazy stuff. Fortunately, I only saw him those two times and nothing ended up actually happening other than him acting like a nutter.

Sad for sure, but the "logic" here is truly stunning. Making a group of cars bunch up around each other doing 65 mph where the margin for error is now reduced to a couple feet for all of them is somehow increasing safety? Effing nuts.

You should have seen the people passing on the on and off ramps. People with barely enough skill to drive straight.

Exactly. If I'm approaching 2 cars in lanes 1 and 2 and 3 is open, and the cars are pacing each other, I move over so I don't have to slow down to pass in lane 3. If lanes 1 and 3 are occupied with 2 cars that are pacing each other and I'm going faster than both, then I move to lane 2, etc....

I try to maintain a speed if I can without doing anything crazy.

[QUOTE=stomachmonkey;11759944]In TX if you want to get anywhere you have no choice.

The really frustrating thing is the far right lane is almost always mostly clear but you still can't get anywhere because you'll run up on some cock blocking twat waffle

Can I quote you on this?

Luckily with our cars, we can pass faster than they can move into our lane.
Wifey doesn’t like it though. Lol
