It became obvious very early on how certain people/groups were going to use the 99.x% survival virus to advance their agendas, and the destruction it was going to cause. Very predictable.
They didn’t disappoint, they overachieved beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.

Yep. It clearly keeps getting worse. Decade after decade. I really did not want to work in the fields from daylight until dark like my father did either...so I guess I am guilty...but a good 12-hour day of work is nothing. I guess we are finally reaching a tipping point when there are millions of job openings and the number of folks choosing not to work is increasing. That may be by design as our government takes earnings from those that do work to reward those that choose sloth.

Frankly, I don't know many working age white collar employees that cannot use a computer. I also don't know any that cannot spell reasonably well, use proper grammar, punctuation, etc....or do basic math. I see that a lot with younger folks. Some even claim to have college degrees.

All I see are excuses by those choking on their silver spoons. If you have a better explanation why so many physically healthy teens and adults are not working, please let us in on it.

so you sincerely believe that for thousands of years, each generation has done less work that the previous one?

and we just so happen to be hitting zero right now?

man, what luck.

Exactly. And when you did get a low-wage job, you worked every hour they would let you...and held another job at night or on the weekends. No one would lend you money and most younger folks didn't even qualify for credit/a credit card. If you didn't work, you didn't eat. Looking at the obesity you see today alone tells you that is no longer the case.

Pretty much for the period your (and my) posts considered. Of course, my personal memory only goes back about 60 years...so it is anecdotal before that (but I believe it largely is the case for most people).

See...there is that math/reasoning thing I was talking about. Your list goes from 1894 until 2022. Hardly thousands of years. Give me an older employee with a work ethic, some common sense, and good communications skills over a person who is pretty good on a computer but lazy and unable to understand simple concepts/math. I can teach them how to use a computer program. My generation built the internet, the personal computer and put men on the moon.

Maybe not zero right now, but in any series of events, there is eventually a breaking point. The current circumstances are clearly causing an acceleration of the decay.

if you were following the conversation, youd note that multiple sources, including Aristotle wrote the same. so it is thousands of years.

im sorry but as is all too common for you, you are factually wrong. worker productivity is at the highest its ever been, ever.

I did not refer to any other part of the conversation (Aristotle) and neither did you in the post I quoted. The fact that you believe you are smarter than Aristotle or know more about his time than he amazes me. While it probably plays well on 4Chan, I really would not even dignify that remark with a response.

Apparently, you do not understand what the chart you posted indicates...as it does not show that people are working harder now than in the past or that more people are working.

And, to compound that, you are incorrect in claiming labor productivity is the highest it has ever been. It actually down over 2020 and even last quarter:

If you think young folks didn't work hard at the turn of the century, maybe you should learn a bit more about history.

of course it does, if you are a capitalist.

are you not a capitalist? is labor not measured in wealth generation? if not in wealth generation, then what would you measure labor in?

I was watching one of the episodes of Gunsmoke from the 1950s. The episode centered on a man getting released from prison after 5 years and coming to town to kill Matt. The character had fought in the civil war, and then spent 5 years in prison.

He got to town and collapsed and Doc Adams diagnosed him with "brain fever" which was pretty much what we call PTSD today. After a nurse made him rest for two weeks he was cured, and left with the nurse to get married. It is a shame two week of bed rest does not cure PTSD, but it has been around for a long time.

As a kid I went to 11 different schools, in multiple states. In all those schools I did not have one fellow student with ADHD or any of the common disorders. They were just told to sit down and shut up or the paddle came out.

In previous generations it was known as being 'shell-shocked', a term that came into use during WW I.

Yep, and while some of this stuff may be OK to be treated with a paddling, I'm not sure that a paddling or "walk it off" or "suck it up" is necessarily the best treatment for PTSD (which can come from many sources, not just war) or many of the other issues that exist today. They existed in the past, and likely caused lots of folks a lot of trouble. They weren't talked about or dealt with back then because it wasn't polite or was shameful. I'm not sure that's the best route to go.

You've got to be careful with "we didn't have this issue before" because you did. Maybe people committed more suicide or were hobos or dropped out of school or were wandering criminals or....

You probably wouldn't say "we didn't have all of this metoo stuff back in the day. Women would just live/deal with it, and they were fine." (or, at least, I hope you wouldn't say that)

No. You are absolutely wrong. The measure you cited has nothing to do with how hard or long anyone worked.
