Get off my lawn!

I had my old 1960 VW bug floored for a long downhill stretch and I think I hit 65. The engine sounded like it was about to explode, and it was stable as a washing machine on spin cycle with a large blanket wadded up on one side of the drum. But I was 16 and invulnerable.

I asked my young niece how fast she has driven her Honda Fit. I thought she would say "120kmh (75mph)", but she said "180kmh (112mph)".
Phew, she's not the sorta girl to check tire pressures etc, but rather she's the sort of girl to think "I've got a good idea." LOL Opp's I've just figured it out. She did learn to drive in the 911SC as it was the only manual car in the extended family at the time. |

A lady customer of ours was driving out west near the Bonneville Salt Flats and saw a sign that said “turn here to drive on the salt flats”. She did and sent us this picture. She had a 993TT. You can see her reflection taking the picture while driving +/- 170MPH!

Never more than 73 in my '72 911S. This according to the largest round gauge in the center of the dash.

We should start a thread: what’s the fastest you’ve been pulled over for in your air cooled car?
I was doing a whopping 80 mph in a 70 in the 930 on a lonely stretch of highway one night. Couldn’t believe it. Called a local lawyer and he took care of it for free. |

I found a park in between two giant SUVs and parked there and then sat there waiting for my heart to start beating again. The other guys in the other car eventually showed up and we all went to lunch. There was a lot of talk about the whole thing, and during lunch we watched 3-4 police cars and pair of motorcycles driving up and down the stretch of road in front of the eatery for at least 10-15 mins. When we left, I drove VERY sedately and directly back to work and never drove to lunch in that car again.

Air cooled BIG turbo car. Not mine 175 as a passenger. 250+ as a driver
For those that remember my 67 Mustang. 152 was 5,200 rpm. C6 Corvette 145 Pantera 140+ 1966 Fairlane GT with 3 buds plus me 120 and it took a long time for the speedo to start working once it was pegged 125 Kart on the front straight of Fontana 100 or so Bicycle? 60 or so.. fast enough to have a CHP guy get in front to slow me down. I went around him... In the rain

100 mph in my SC
It felt very stable at that speed for a 45 year old car.

This. Modern cars make “go to jail” and DOA way too easy. My son loves WOT pulls too much so he’s not going to drive a genuinely fast car alone for years after getting his license.

During my three years in Stuttgart, got plenty of high-speed runs to redline in the 88 3.2 Cab. Rock solid with front and rear spoilers. Kept the car in tip top shape and never felt anything near uncomfortable even with full on hard braking...tail never felt like it wanted to come around.
I never ran the engine above 6200 RPM, the bottom of the red arc, so she probably would easily hit 145 mph or above. This link is after departing early morning from Garmisch in southern Bavaria through winding back roads along the German Alps and finally arriving at the southern end of Autobahn 7 at the German border north to Ulm (Einstein's birthplace), then switching to Autobahn 8 to Stuttgart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk9QHLM9KYU
