Things I found interesting…

1. Reusing the same monocoque chassis for all tests.
2. Pounding on the car with hammers or rubber mallets with what appeared to be no damage. There had to be microcracks.

One of the reasons the 959 was never imported into the USA was the crash test requirements of the USA. Porsche lost money on every single 959 sold, and to destroy several of them to satisfy US crash standards was too expensive for Porsche at the time.

Helmuth Bott was the director of the engineering department when the 959 was in development. He came to speak at War Bonnet Tech and discussed the 959 project and talked of the crash standards. He also mentioned he had a company car 959 as a daily driver. He said the locals gave it no notice at all. Just another Porsche to the locals. When he drove his Model T all the locals waved and smiled.

The Brumos museum owns his old 959.
