I think you're going to need a seance to talk to the Crocodile Hunter, and I can't imagine that he's that up on Ohio law.

True that, but if he lives in Ohio...he should see this as a sign to move to a better location (NC).

If gifted handguns require a transfer permit or concealed carry permit, how are your's "not illegal"?

Yep, stick it in your trunk or luggage or better yet, in your luggage in your trunk, and take it home.

Almost no place in the US requires any sort of registration or permit to own a gun. I think there might be a few places that want to know, Cali, NY, NJ, maybe someplace like Chicago.

About the only time you might need a permit is to carry the gun around.

As I noted, that is an option, but he seemed concerned about legality.

...and go back through TN, not VA.

Mebbe the laws were different in the 70s? What if I found all the guns that Seahawk lost in that horrible boating incident .

I think that permit has been required since 1919. The same year my father was born (and the year Joe Biden went to a performance of Gladys Knight in Delaware) https://twitter.com/charliespiering/status/1599758261749972993

Yep. You are right. I am not one to advise anyone to break gun laws on the internet...and would not advertise if I were breaking any.

Personally, I find it easier to just have a concealed carry permit that enjoys reciprocity in almost all states (including yours) ...and avoid the few states where it does not.

You have to have a permit to own a gun in Ohio? I don't think so. Buy a travel case for the weapon, lock the weapon in the case, lock the case in the trunk of your car. If you stop for the night, take the locked case into the hotel room with you. When you get to OH, take a gun safety course, if you're not familiar with that weapon or firearms in general. My understanding is that OH doesn't require registration or a CCW.

No brainer for me. Lock it securely in a case in the trunk/cargo area. Have no ammunition with you. Drive home. OH is free and clear.

I will likely still get a permit just because I can't carry in MI without one, and they do have reciprocity.

Putting on my “Slept at a Holiday Inn” lawyer hat.

Laws are different regarding transfer between immediate family (Father, Mom, Bro, Sis) than uncle , aunt, cousin.

My fee is 2 beers, you can make arrangements with Della on your way out.

Here in Kah-lee-fornia, the legal transfer from father to son is really straightforward. No FFL needed. You can fill the forms out yourself online. CCW is a whole 'nother matter. But you can register a pistol, no problem. You can keep it in your home or business without a carry permit.

Wouldn't bother with a transfer. Wouldn't put it in my trunk either. Might as well carry some rocks for self defense in those states. No cop can search your car without PC or consent and you don't owe anyone an explanation for a gun in your car anyway. I picked up a gun from a former fed in NJ with no transfer, checked it as luggage at the airport, took it back to AZ. No need to explain anything to anyone.

I'm pretty sure everybody I've ever known has technically violated "gun laws" and speed laws .... and only fint and folks in CA and NJ, etc. have to worry about real consequences. Only on the Internet ....

I've also had sex without being married and smoked weed ....

Glad to see someone level headed folks here.

Agree with Rick, I’ve flown multiple times with hand spoons and ammo. Checked it and didn’t have to explain anything. Yes there is a process but it is simple.

Bob is in NC, and driving as I understand it.

One of my much younger friends recently inherited his dad's handguns. He asked me how he can get them registered. I told him as far as I know, there is no place in Oklahoma the register a gun. No government agency has a gun registration.

A citizen can still get a concealed carry permit if they want, even though it is not needed since we have "constitutional carry" law. Some people like to have the card for going to other states as many states accept the license from other states.

I certainly would stay out of Virginia if you have a spoon or a radar detector of any sort with you. Most other states follow the constitution.

Be sure to go to a local shooting range and learn to use your new toys properly and safely.

VA is not friendly to radar detectors, but I don't think it's unfriendly to spoons. It's got reciprocity with 35 other states.

Virginia is a shall-issue state. For residents, applications are filed with the circuit court in their county of residence, and non-residents must mail their application to the State Police.

There is no permit or firearms registration required when buying a handgun from a private individual, provided the buyer and seller are both Virginia residents. However, based on SB70/HB2 being signed into law, as of July 1, 2020, all sales are required to be completed through a dealer who must submit a background check. Additionally, a one handgun per month purchase restriction is now in effect, although concealed carry permit holders are exempt.

Open carry is legal in Virginia without a permit for anyone who is at least 18 years old who can legally possess a firearm. However, Localities, such as Alexandria and Newport News may ban the open carry of firearms in public buildings, parks and at special events.

Concealed carry is legal for residents with a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) and non-residents with any valid state license/permit. Virginia CHPs are issued to both residents and non-residents at least 21 years old and require a state-approved firearms training course and demonstrated competence with the firearm. Some areas are off-limits, including airport terminals and places of worship during services. In addition, municipalities may ban guns in government buildings and areas such as public parks, recreation or community centers, and outdoor areas being used during permitted events. In terms of reciprocity, Virginia honors all out-of-state concealed carry permits.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is how you transport it. I'd go for vehicle trunk in a piece of luggage. If you carry ammo put it in a different location and keep mags unloaded.

And FFS don't consent to a search of the vehicle.
