If he isn’t cleared on Monday, his ski race career is probably finished. If this is the case, the ‘plan’ will change. RCMP are already in the loop.

Other kid is getting what he needs.
Best to your son, you, and the other kid too UB ... an unfortunate situation for your boy, but it sounds like you are dealing with in an exceptional manner. Good luck!

this will be unpopular here but i'm not clear on why the plan will change based on how long the boy is out from competitive sports. if you've made peace with the other kid in your mind then i think be done with it and move on. but if there is some form of 'lets see if he misses his last season of ski racing and then i'll decide what to do' in play here then i think maybe we're treating a child like an adult.

^^^^ I was wondering the same thing to be honest. But it's UB's kid .... not mine, and easy to second guess from a keyboard. Hoping for the best to all that are involved!

My son was cleared for sport on Monday morning.

He has a day of 1:1 training planned with the head coach of our ski club on Friday to hopefully get him a little more up to speed.

He played basketball last night, the picture below shows him with the kid that attacked him - note the size difference.

The school division has taken the incident very seriously and everyone is getting the appropriate level of support. I really can’t say much more.

I made it very clear that if the school division didn’t step up, the RCMP and Family Services would be involved (I already started this process and the ball is in my court). I didn’t need to make this threat - the ball was already rolling.

I think we are on the right path. Lots of parents had lots of questions about the incident at last night’s game. I couldn’t really tell them anything other than that things are being sorted and the path is the right one.

Sounds like it's being handled appropriately UB! I'm just glad Tootie Robbins never body slammed me back in college.... that's a "big boy" too!

Thanks for the update .... hoping for the best for everyone!

I wonder what that bully has learned? Body slams a kid to the floor, and gets to keep on playing basketball.

Lots of folks have labeled him a "bully" except UB who early on said he is NOT a bully, but a 13 yr old "boy" he's known for 8 yrs, from a less than ideal home environment, who has some anger management issues. He might even be the "target" of other kids' bullying ... yeah, "some big kids" get picked on at that age.

Just food for thought .... true "bullies" are a different matter entirely imo.

It sounds like good news all around under the circumstances.

Wow, the size difference is considerable!

I'm glad things seem to be working out for everyone.

Right, huge difference between someone that habitually targets people that they see as weaker, often a few specific people, and someone that occasionally lashes out.

This is exactly the situation. If it was a bully, the cops and lawyers would have likely been involved from the get go. That’s not the situation here.

What I do appreciate is all of the advice and perspectives that this forum provides. Thank you PPOT.

That was the sense I got from his opening post.

A wide and interesting range of replies.
