dark roasting of coffee does not make the coffee richer. It simply destroys the bean.

Sure, darker... oils get pushed to the surface... but to what end? (other than consumer perception that dark and oily must be richer) All of that goodness staying stable in the bean, and then to cup, is my snobbish goal.

I may be weird that I don't like burnt toast either.

I drink SB House Blend. I don't like other SB flavors. 7 Eleven has good coffee but I don't go there much. I used to when I was out working. Farmer Bros. is good too, but only available commercially if you don't want to pay Amazon prices. I mean it's over a buck an ounce, but I think restaurants get a much better deal. They have to.

There was one "Donut Shop" style that I liked in K-cups but I lost track. I use a French Press and a 4 minute brew at 195º.

I experimented with the first & second cracks and was meticulous with temps, measurements, and times. All dark is not burnt.... and if it is ... I like my coffee beans burnt "just right" !

It's personal preference .... sorta like beer imo.

You like toasted beer?

Oh wait, it's about the beer getting you toasted just right.

Is that so the burnt coffee tastes good the next morning?

What can I say, I'm a coffee snob.

You and me both.

At my former photo lab job, I lived 3/4 of a mile from the office. I got there early, got the coffee pot started, started up the two film processors, and both paper processors, and had my first cup of coffee before anyone else got in. We had one hard and fast rule, if you drank the last cup, you damn well better make the next pot of coffee before the owner - boss got in or risk no Friday donuts for you and getting stuck on bathroom cleanup duty for a few months.

Maybe? The coffee I like (dark roasts) apparently are quite pedestrian compared to the real coffee weenies. ...but I prefer it over everything else. So I have a strong preference and hate weak or cheap coffee..

SO yes, but I'm terrible at being one.

Beautiful.

The best cup of coffee is the one I don't have to make: I drink one cup a day and Mrs. Seahawk makes and delivers it her Frog Prince every morning.

She has a discriminating coffee palate and likes to experiment. I like to drink whatever shows up.

I will say that when I was on the USS LaSalle, the Mess Crank had a gift for coffee creation; Petty Officer Abalos from the Philippines.

My dad talked about the Air Force flight line coffee maker that was on 24-7-365 at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. He said crews were coming in and leaving on missions and they all ran on coffee. The pot had not been scrubbed down and cleaned in years, and made great coffee.

Then they got a new Airman on his first assignment. He was trying to make a good impression, so he disassembled the coffee maker, and cleaned it with several cleaning products, and made a new batch of coffee. All the pilots and crew came in expecting the same coffee as before and it tasted like cleaning products. That airman was soon transferred to Minot, ND in winter.

Dad said it took a week for it to get seasoned enough to be drinkable again.

One of our local PCA members is a retired cop. He drinks coffee, black and keep it coming and says he has had some really awful coffee when he was a cop.

Ha, that's exactly me too. I pull two shots a day. One goes in the wife's morning latte, the other I toss down on my way out the door to work. I don't want to futz with dialing the shot, so I buy dark roast whole beans from Costco. Having consistent shots, well dialed, is the most important thing for my needs/workflow.

I could be considered a coffee snob.. I don't own an electric coffee maker like a Mr Coffee, or Kuerig.. I use an Aeropress, a French press, a Vacuum brewer, a Kalita pour over cone, or a Moka pot....

I grind my beans just before use..... And primarily buy beans from the 6 or so small batch roasters near me... I was recently in Flux Coffee, and passed on making a purchase because all they had was light roast or medium light roast coffee...

I like darker roasts... Not Espresso roast... sort of City Roast or City+ I just picked up a pound of City Roast Sumatra/Kenya Blend for $18 from Sergios in Babylon

My little ritual, put some water on to boil, weigh and grind beans(hand ground).. I usually use an Aeropress... French press or Pour over if I'm making more than one cup. I weigh
the water.. and vary steep time until I find what works for the beans I have...

A little OCD... but I just drink one cup a day..

Interestingly, Starbucks was sort of a spin-off of Peets..

https://www.peets.com/blogs/peets/the-history-of-peets-coffee

Peets offers a number of whole bean coffees..Peets whole bean, as does Starbucks Starbucks whole bean

Further a few years ago I dated a woman who had been a barista at Starbucks..she told me at any given moment there are 3-5 types of beans in use every day i.e. you can get a pour over of Pike... or whatever blend or single origin they are featuring.

A good local medium roast sent through our superauto for espresso - dark is too harsh for me and too oily for the machine or then again McD's does well enough. Dunkin if necessary if I'm on the east coast (they're everywhere!)

Starsucks can likely survive without my business. Never liked their espresso drinks and I like their drip coffee even less. I'd rather a Nebraska truck stop coffee with three vanilla-cremes... (maybe four)

Cafe Bustelo in my espresso machine. Add hot water and it becomes an Americano. Add steamed or frothed milk and it becomes a latte or cappuccino. Add sweetend condensed milk and cafe sua nong. Add ice to that and it becomes cafe sua da. Add some espresso to my Jameson and it becomes Irish Coffee.

I go with the Costco dark French Roast and a French Press. It is remarkably consistent.

My grandfather always made coffee (MJB from the can) by boiling it in a pot with a cedar chip on top to prevent foaming; he'd let it settle a few minutes and pour off the top.

That Steve Martin clip is hilarious - I had completely forgotten about that movie!

Yeah, I recon French press coffee is the real taster of coffee. Haha, sure is a lot of coffee from one small bag LOL
