Need to Replace My Mag-Lite

We have a local company that manufactures in Australia... "Knog". They make really cool bike lights, head lamps and flashlights. They don't make everything here but their stuff is well designed and just works.

However in your case I'd get something "Made in the US". Not cheap but like always you'll soon forget what you paid and enjoy years of trouble free use with excellent customer service.

I like Olight warrior 3s. Preferred the feel of the side button on earlier versions but still like this and use every night when I take dogs out

Only issue with the Fenix is it won’t tail stand

I like strobe function on modern tactical lights. Good for blinding an attacking animal or person

I have a decades old d cell mag light hanging in the garage. Works but sucks compared to modern LED. If it wasn’t my dads I would send it to you but honestly, modern lights are way better

Has it been 6 months already? Every 6 months there's a flashlight thread, and a knife thread, and I am always tempted to buy more...

But seriously, if the flashlight isn't getting much use, I'd skip the Alkalines and go with CR123s. Probably won't be as hefty but you know it'll work and not leak. That or leave the batteries out. Or get one of those with 18650s that also has the charger built in and leave it plugged in.

When investigating something outside, I use a small, but bright light.
I have bigger ones in case I feel the need.

I have the UC35 and can't say enough good things about it. Have let a few people use it and they cannot get over how bright and small it is. Definitely will get another when this one dies (hopefully never!)

++ Fenix. No, most don't bring the persuasion power of a multi-D maglight but they sure do light up the night. One of mine is USB-charged, the other uses an offboard charger that then doubles for a "power pack" for other USB toys.

I'd buy them again and probably not even look elsewhere. Seems to be good product at a fair price.

I have a problem with flashlights. I like them so much to the point that I had some custom made over the years. Mag light is great if you want to play baseball with it. Big and clumsy unless it is use to hit someone with it. I rather use a longer stick instead.

Most people associate a good light with throw. For general use, I like a med. throw beam with wide enough beam pattern that allow the user to see a wilder area (medium flood) and not just a 1.5' bright spot at 10' away. You need to have the entire room lit up not a corner. Lights with slight orange peel reflective lens will do that but the throw or distance suffers a bit. Small, fit well in hand and it has a fail safe tail light switch(does tail stand too). I like tail switch because it doesn't matter how dark, the switch is always there unlike traditional side switch, i have to look or feel for it. I have the older model in every one of my vehicles including my office and tool box. GEt the USB rechargeable instead of ones that requires a charger. It is just simpler and easier.

This is also a great light that I use to see into my back yard. My coyote light. The throw is more then enough due to it brightness but the diameter of the hot spot is wider making it much easier to see a larger area. Oh, it is bright. The only draw back is the side switch and its a bit larger in diameter but shorter then the ones motioned above at 1.25". An earth worm can be seen within 50 yards.

Fenix also makes something similar but they are a few bucks more. Just as reliable too.

I have a Thrunite like just like it in my wife's van. I like the Thrunite because it has a magnate that will stick to the underside of a hood or similar. Comes in handy when needed.

If a larger light is needed, look into Streamlight. Same ones cops use. They are almost the same as a mag light but much brighter. I had one, but like the smaller lights so much more and the are much brighter.

You don't even need to buy another flashlight.
Just use one of the LED torches you have in the garage.

Honestly, almost any flashlight other than a maglight is going to be as good or more likely far better than your old maglight.

THere are the high cost brands like surefire and fenix.

Olight is making some great flashlights these days. And most of the newer models have a magnetic charger which is very cool.

I fixed the MagLite. Poured vinegar into the tube, waited a few days, rinsed and brushed out the gunk, dried it off. Still didn’t light, so folded up some aluminum foil between the battery and the flashlight contact, and it worked. Cleaned the threads, applied some antiseize, lubed the O-rings, cleaned the reflector and lens, and it’s good as new!

This MagLite has an LED bulb, so it’s fairly bright. Lasted for 20 years, hopefully good for 20 more.

Keep the Maglight as a weapon, but a new flash light and you will never use the mag light again.

^^^^ This .... and why I tossed mine. Luv my Olight, and the blinding feature of the strobe is better than a Mag club imo. Like the usb/magnetic charger too....
