Everything has gotten expensive now, try pricing out a new 5.0 Mustang….

But yeah I’m not a fan of all the special low production models Porsche seems to be intent on producing from a buyer perspective, however from an enthusiasts perspective it’s cool as hell to see them still doing it. While too big and not my idea of attractive the newer GT3’s are damn impressive based on what I have read.

Like everyone here I have always had used 911’s and over the years really enjoyed them. I got my 997.2 GT3RS before prices went into the stratosphere and drive it. So not everyone owns garage queens and I know a few guys who still drive the hell out of their 911’s no matter what the value is.

Patiently awaiting Cocker telling me his Miata’s are a better car than my 911.

(no offense intended) I get it but I'm not entirely comfortable with this post.

Why change the way "we" live because of the criminals in the world? I'm sure there's a valid argument either way but it just doesn't feel right to me. A little PARFy but if our politicians want us to act in a civilized way they need to restore civilization.

it is. its better than my 911 too, and mine has all the GT3 goodies on it too.

you can buy faster cars than a miata, im not convinced you can buy better ones though.

There's nothing wrong with a Miata but "better" can often be subjective.

absolutely, in my case the main reasons for better are:

1. there are ~2 million of them, so they are cheap to buy, and easy to write off

2. this also means that if you want to do something with your miata ... someone else already has. which means its cheap/easy to do so. want to build an ice racing GT3? good luck. want to build an off road miata? there is a whole company that makes every part you are going to need already. it comes with instructions.

3. the consumables on them (brakes, tires etc), are all pennies on the dollar compared to GT3 stuff. more events = more experience = better driver. there is no reason to make a catastrophically expensive hobby even more catastrophically expensive.

4. cheaper cars and running costs means deeper and more talented competition. the step up from spec miata racing is TA2 typically. or xfinity series. the top level spec miata drivers are pro drivers in all but name. you dont find that depth of talent in most am racing. you can also show up at any race track in the country and expect deep talent, well prepped cars, and a real race. unlike 90+ percent of am racing classes.

while i love me some Porsches ... there just isnt a car that does it all like a miata does. they really are, the best.

I've seen Jay plenty of times driving expensive cars all by himself. I don't think your scenario is something to seriously be worried about.

Also, just to add to above. Honestly just having good awareness of where your going and surroundings has always been something Ive been mindful of, the times havent changed that at all. Most people driving 200K Porsches probably aren't driving them in really sketchy areas to begin with. I'd be more concerned with getting a door ding while it was parked somewhere...

Yeah I have no fear of anything in Paul's post and agree with Michael.

We know you love the Miata Cocker, and for what you are using it for it is a much better choice. However, I would not sell my 911 to get a Miata, that is just me.

Hard to believe that in October 2000 I bought a 1972 911 for $5800 because that’s how much the seller still owed on it.

Right! I paid 5500 for this in July 1999. The owner held it for me till I was done paying for my upcoming wedding. The car was around much longer then the wife. 😉 ( didn't look like this when I bought it)

I drive my Cayman almost daily, in LA. Now, I don't frequent high crime areas like s central or San Bernandino but if traffic is heavy, I have no issues getting off driving throw those places to avoid traffic. Its a few miles, so its really no big deal, plus its out in the big street. I will not drive anything or walk through those areas or in an alley way. That's asking for it. I agree with Pete, can't live life like that. Once, I was feeling pretty bad when I drove my 930 few times a week when I first bought it. I wouldn't drive it to some places, not because I worry about getting rob but didn't want to show off a car like that. Now, I live my life for me, not them so it gets driven but I don't drive it to collect rent. That's just not cool. I even drive it to my construction sites.

Whatcha guys think of them 991 turbo S? I may have a chance to buy it.

Talking about "yawn another millionaire toy" - the boys at throttle house put that out on the GT3RS. Not a fan of the looks but I really enjoy their videos, they are the best reviewers out there in my opinion...

good luck - they are sold out already and whichever comes in the dealership showroom will be locked up waiting for its owner and your butt won't be welcome inside ;-) Maybe at a car show ? Maybe in Monterey for car week or Rennsport!

Put that in your driveway and you'd sing a different tune, Pavarotti. You would adjust.

You people down there amaze me.

When an F150 can easily get up to $85K, this ST seems cheap. .

My only problem is the limited run, wealthy can only buy them, store them and then double their money in 5 years. Capitalism at its finest.

I feel like if you are allowed to buy one you should be required to put 5K miles a year on it otherwise Porsche takes it back.

Yeah I don't object to that car specifically, if I were uber rich and plugged in I'd have one yesterday. Just "Yawn" because I only fantasize about stuff I have a shot at. My beef is Porsche changed post Covid. They figured out they can make less cars and more profit by going up in range - Hell they just raised prices on all models about 10%... just because they can. There are enough very rich folks worldwide that they can get away with becoming Ferrari-like: We'll sell you a Touring if you have bought 10 cars from us (OK that is the dealer but the scarcity is from Porsche). They'll only manufacture market demand -50% of the fun models because that way the price and profit stays up with less hassle, and the mystique expands, and inundate instagram with pics of that unattainable car driven by NBA players or what have you... They were less of a fashion brand for the rich and famous before. They were a brand that delivered great cars that normal folks has a shot at, after some depreciation, or on base models. My brand. That has changed - they also do not listen (gearing?).

Also after 20y of experience with watercooled ones all with with autobahn gearing I resent the short 6 speed box being delivered on this car only ;-) They won't care, they don't need my pitiful money (but Prueninger was decrying the fact that enthusiasts don't drive those cars - why do you think that is Andy, you sell them for $$$$ to $$$ folks only that bought a 918 from you), said they'd make more to reduce rarity, they did not. Oh well, moving on. It's just good to hear it's not just me that got kicked to the curb ;-)
