That sums it up for me, as well.

Nothing to add except this thread sounds like many of Chris Harris’ podcasts.

Some similar laments about the high end of the hobby.

If you haven’t listened check him out.

Me, being me, Maybe in a second hand yard in 18 years.

Adelaide would be a good place for a car like this. A few runs up to wine country...

Yes but for a winery trip I'd chose this.

The influence of American culture in Australia goes back many decades.

I grew up watching Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch and Happy Days. Saturday afternoon was Jerry Lewis or Lucille Ball movie time.

I'd buy one if I didn't have kids to put through college.

Ok fine maybe not this one but the Spyder RS for sure.

Megamillions up to 1.55 $Billion. Hell, you could buy a dealership.

Nope...not buying a ticket...winning would ruin my life.

I originally agreed with the original post, but I thought about it a bit and realized that high $$$$ limited edition models are nothing new for Porsche.

For example, a 930S "flat nose" had an MSRP between $95k and $100k in the late 1980s. That equates to about $250k in 2023 dollars.

Yes, they have gotten more expensive, especially taking dealer greed into account, but to look at just MSRP prices, an '87 3.2 sticker price equates to $125k to $130k in 2023, which is about the sticker price for a new 911 carrera.

3. the consumables on them (brakes, tires etc), are all pennies on the dollar compared to GT3 stuff. more events = more experience = better driver. there is no reason to make a catastrophically expensive hobby even more catastrophically expensive.

4. cheaper cars and running costs means deeper and more talented competition. the step up from spec miata racing is TA2 typically. or xfinity series. the top level spec miata drivers are pro drivers in all but name. you dont find that depth of talent in most am racing. you can also show up at any race track in the country and expect deep talent, well prepped cars, and a real race. unlike 90+ percent of am racing classes.

while i love me some Porsches ... there just isnt a car that does it all like a miata does. they really are, the best.
