Wheel Boot for Car Antitheft

Anyone know how well wheel boots work as car anti-theft protection?

Is it like steering wheel “clubs”, easily defeated? or a lot better?

Which design of boot is best?

The YouTube channel “Donut” did a test of a bunch of them and if memory serves, most were defeated quickly.

With the advent of battery powered angle grinders with cut off disks

I saw a youtube about an angle grinder proof chain for locking up motorbikes.

Funny I saw a yard crew trailer down my street yesterday with a full yellow boot on the wheel. I couldn’t figure out why the city would boot the trailer (it was hitched to the truck), then I figured out it was their anti-theft device!

Interesting

For home use? I think the removable post in the driveway is a better option. Or drive something that doesn't get stolen.

unless it's a kia, anything that stops it being lifted and towed is your best bet.

Are you thinking of getting one?
Could work as a visual deterrent, but I think getting creative electronically would work better.

What stops a Kia from being lifted?

Anything can be stolen if the dirtbag is smart (or determined) enough.

I saw a pic of a Ferarri that was chained to a parking garage concrete post and the thief unlocked it, took the car, and locked the chain back up.
Anything with electronics can be hacked.
A car parked in the street can be dragged onto a flatbed and hauled off.

Good visual deterrent.
If tandem axle they can just unbolt/remove the booted wheel and go.
Last time I left the trailer in a storage lot it had 2 boots, a cable lock, hitch pin lock and a big hitch lock.
Apple air tags, in your trailer, truck, race car so you can track it.
Parked with trailer attached to my truck I pull the starter relay on the truck.

It's a nice insured Featherlight enclosed trailer... for a week in the storage lot during the Monterey Rolex Reunion and on a closed freeway during the Long Beach Grand Prix.
But I feel it is most vulnerable when attached to the truck parked overnight in a hotel lot.

They don’t need to be. They can be stolen by looking at them.

Even car thieves have pride. No way would they steal a Kia.

One of my friends is a professional welder, with hiis own company. He makes specialized trailer for companies for doing underground boring. The equipment they haul and the trailer itself is very specialized.

One of them was parked at a motel when a crew was in a remote area for a job. It was locked to the pickup, the pickup was disabled electronically. The thieves just used a torch to cut the tongue of the trailer off, and a pallet jack or something to move the trailer enough to tack weld on a new tongue and get down the road far enough to weld it better. They stole all the equipment and tools, and left the trailer with no wheels in a field.

My friend fixed up the trailer and reinforced the tongue area with harder to cut materials.

The pros can steal anything if they really want it, shy of have several armed guards on duty all the time.

Wow. I was going to post that no one is going to steal my boat because it has a removable tongue on the trailer (slip in type) But if they bring a welder and a new tongue .....

Inside job. That’s someone who knew what they were after and what they needed to do to get it.
