And Thank you is what I should have originally said to Herr_Oberst.
So thank you Herr for the kind compliment.

Now tell me about your 914. Does 914 mean it's got 14 cylinders? ;)

That really was funny

Yep. 3 more than a 911.

My best approach is asking, "is that a hemi?" or, "how many carburetor does it have?" (Best if it has neither.) Guys eat that **** up.

Here I thought that would have been a big plus.....

The best piece of advice given to me as always been...."Pick Your Battles"!
If you know that you are "correct" on a certain topic and it's a very minor one at that...don't go on and on and on...give your opinion and then move on!

Example: "I love your chili dear but, the next time can you add some beans?" The partner's response: "Real chili has no beans!" response: "Well I like my chili with beans...."
response: "Man, you are so stooopid! Real chili has NO BEANS! You can't call it chili, OK!" response: "Yes, dear..." response: "What are you really saying?! THAT YOU DON'T LIKE MY CHILI, IS THAT RIGHT?! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY SAYING THEN?!" response: "I love your chili...it's perfect just the way it is...I'm going to take the garbage out now..." "Hey, don't you turn your back on me! Now admit that you're wrong! REAL CHILI HAS NO BEANS! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!" LOL!! :D:D:D:p

Similarily, if you are wrong, admit it and move on.;)

Sometimes, as joke, I'll say something totally out in left field and await her response....so, so fackin funny the response I get sometimes!! :D:p:D But, darned, once in a while she catches on....;)

And for the record....I LIKE MY CHILI WITH BEANS! OK!!

Its interesting that everyone says "be yourself", "be honest", "don't want to play games"...
So why would a woman hide her knowledge of cars (unless you are just looking for no commitment entertainment with without meaningful communication or involvement)?
It has been 42 years since I was dating but I learned that if I have to pretend to be someone I am not, then either I will be miserable and want out or, the other person will figure out who I really am and be disappointed and want out.

It’s 10PM on Saturday and you’re on Pelican. Did he ghost you?

Lol no, he showed up at the car show as planned. We had a good time.

One of the many things that I found attractive about my wife was her brains! Her dad taught her to listen to car noises, and notice a funny noise. She was driving a Mercedes 190 with a 5 speed transmission when we were first dating.

You have a full, absolute pardon Byron.... I don't actually recall the blurred pictures, but just remember everyone kidding you about them .... a LONG time ago ;)

Interesting thread (that I have enjoyed reading). I got divorced this year (March) after 20+ years of marriage and had zero desire to enter the dating scene. I'm 59. Very interesting to hear Capt Carrera's assessment of the dating pool of men. It is probably the same for the men, actually, but I wouldn't know. In the vein of "when you least expect it" I crossed paths after my divorce with a woman I have worked with for years but never really knew. The crossing of our paths was a collision. We are now 'together'. She could care less about cars but has a PhD in particle physics and absolutely kicks my ass intellectually. I love it. I have no ego anymore - I know who I am. She is the most amazing person I have ever met.

Life is too short to not be happy. I think when you get to my age (like most of us) this isn't our first rodeo and at this point in life it is all about being honest, not playing games, and just being happy. "Create a world that you love" every day and be happy as long as it is not at anyone else's expense.

I can tell you that as a mid-fifties male: If you have a) education, b)good job, c) car, d)your own house, the dating world is your oyster...

Have a decent disposition, don't badmouth your ex, and you can be very busy...
