We have friends in VA who had a real fancy home and they would do home swap vacations all over the world. We would dog sit Marcus, their pit bull, whenever they went. Big old striped dog about twice as big around in the front as he was in the back…looked like he should be smoking a cigar. Nicest, friendliest, gentlest dog you could ever want. Never once heard him bark at anybody or anything. Nonetheless, when I would walk him, people would move to the other side of the street when they saw us coming. Once a Beagle came charging out of somebody’s yard right at him barking. Stuck his nose in Marcus’ butt as dogs want to do and Marcus just calmly kept on walking. I know pit bulls can be dangerous but Marcus was a wonderful one.

When I was a kid, my uncle had a chevy vega that
didn't leak oil or overheat and our neighbor had a
ford pinto that didn't blow up or catch fire.

Guess the bad reps were undeserved

As a teenager, a buddy's family got a new dog - a Samoyed - fairly young. First time I was "introduced" to it in their house it jumped up and nipped a finger on my right hand. Buddy's dad was right there and just made some general comment that it wasn't a real bite, etc. Skin on my finger was broken and bleeding - but just very slightly.

A few weeks go by and I visit again. No dog in sight. I asked about it- and buddy said they had to git rid of it. Seems his Aunt dropped by a week or so ago and went to hug his Mom. Dog jumped up and bit her arm.

Wow.
With logic like that, if I shoot a friend of yours for no reason and they call the police then they must be... ?

My first new car I bought…’73 Pinto with manual trans and A/C. Put 125K on it with little to no problem. I sold it to a friend who put anther ton of miles on it. A Camaro rear ended him at a stop light and one of the doors wouldn’t close good. Then some guy saw it in his fenced lot at his shop and bought it. Maybe it’s still on the road!

Yep, I grew up with Samoyeds, and they can be pretty "wild" at times. I recall reading way back when that they do require good behavior training.

Logic? Nope, none.

A local 4 year old was killed on halloween by a dog that was at his Grandma's. Sounds like the whole family is a bit of a *&(^ show. Grandma's boyfriend, the dogs owner, arrested after. He was violating a no contact order related to being around minors. He is awaiting trial for child porn. Young Mom dropped the kid off a lot. Looks like Grandma and her child porn possessing boyfriend were both drunk when the kid was killed.

That probably depends upon the bite and the dog owners response. If a dog nips at someone, but doesn't break the skin, and the dog owner is super apologetic and willing to try to appease the nippee... If the nippee put themselves in a bad situation... If the dog is a habitual offender and the owner has been told to control their dog many times...

There are situations where the nippee is the POS, and there are situations where dog owner is the POS (whether anyone is sued or not), but if it gets litigious, then that just adds a layer of possible crappiness.

It's simple. If a dog bites me and I incur costs, I expect the owner to reimburse me. Medical, lost pay, etc.

Hurt feelings and suffering? No. But the owner is responsible for out-of-pocket costs.

That's assuming that the person that was bit (not necessarily specifically you) was reasonable. I think we all know that there could be instances where someone could have their dog on a leash where someone could approach the dog, possibly with the dog owner saying, "please stay away from my dog" while the person says, "oh dogs love me!" while quickly reaching down at the top of the dogs head. And I think we also all know that there could be people that would sue without ever having incurred any costs.

There are clueless morons on both sides of the coin. Granted, in most cases, it's likely to be the dog owner's issues, but it is possible for the other person to be at fault.

Reporting a crime is the same as filing a law suit?
On what planet?
That doesn't so very logical to me.
it sounds like just the opposite.
That's as nice as I can put it.

Reporting an attempted murder is logical and reasonable.
Filing a claim against a homeowner's insurance policy for costs incurred is logical and reasonable.

Stick with me here, this is where it gets confusing to some:

FILING A LAWSUIT makes you a POS.
We're not talking small claims here to get reimbursed for costs.

We're talking personal injury LAWSUITS where the lawyer says:
we'll just say we want a million dollars and see what happens.
Where a POS starts taking about time away from work,
expecting punitive damages,
pain and suffering, etc.

You can recognize the type everywhere,
even in this thread.

And well all know that encompasses almost all
lawsuits for personal injury.
Hense getting lumped into the POS category.

I've been in court four times in my life.
All four were for frivolous and baseless lawsuits
filed against me or a company I represented,
and all four were dismissed without judgement.
And yes, all four of the people who filed those lawsuits
(and their ambulance chasers) were undeniably walking Pieces OS.

My next door neighbor's daughter brought her 1 year old pit bull over to visit...no leash.

He spotted me, in my yard, from at least 100 feet away and took off barking and latched onto my ankle. I was wearing a pair of muck/bog boots because of snow on the ground. The dog couldn't pierce the boot...but wouldn't let go.

I really wish I had been carrying a lead pipe....would have been done quickly.
