PB's are typically owned by the LAST people that should be owning them. Not always, but definitely the breed of choice for perpetual-poor-decision-makers.

our neighbour has two rescues from Texas.
we viewed the house twice - the previous owner conspired with the neighbour to have the dogs away for both viewings.
constant yelping. one of 'em went at me, trying to get under the fence, did it twice.
big steel fence now, at considerable cost to me.
and? the owner fits the profile, perfectly. bro dozer, smoker, jack shack with an external tv.

creaturecat, after reading that, I had to consult Urban Dictionary.

"Learn somethin' ever' day!"

Bro dozer

A pick-up truck that the owner took to the truck accessory store and said "give me the micropenis compensation package." In other words - lift kit, oversize wheels, off-road tires, hub spacers (because the oversize knobby tires and wheels aren't taking up enough parking already), light bar, and a trailer hitch. It'll never be intentionally taken off-road and the trailer hitch will never tow anything.

Mike: Did you see Bubba's new bro dozer?
John: He had to buy one. He is a Florida man. I think it's a law...

In CA mandatory disclosure would have taken care of that. And it's on the Realtor.

Noise from external sources and hazards are on the list. The fact that the Realtor and neighbor worked together to deceive you is worth the trouble to sue.

That's actually fraud. They should lose their license.

Granted the stats point to pits as the highest breed of human attacks, but I am curious what the numbers are 'per breed capita'. The news seems to only highlight when they attack, but never hear about other breeds.

I'd be curious what the mixed breeds are, but there's probably no surprises there.

In the 15-year period of 2005 through 2019, canines killed 521 Americans. Pit bulls contributed to 66% (346) of these deaths. Combined, pit bulls and rottweilers contributed to 76% of the total recorded deaths.

https://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2019.php

I'd be curious about 'per capita' as well. What I see in the street, the percentage seems very high.

Yes another similar one is the "CON-TRACTOR" , it's the full-size american pickup, also with ridiculous oversized positive offset wheels, but a rack full of ladders and a HILTI box, maybe some drywall mud scattered here and there

"Mall Crawler" is yet another term of endearment reserved for these Bro Dozers.

And why is it, when there is a dog in one, it's usually a Pit?

We briefly had some neighbors. They had three very large dogs that were not pit bulls, but a similar breed.

Woman says how they are her babies. Gentle. Etc.

And then she is found bleeding and screaming on top of her car because the dogs “flipped” one day.

Divorce and moved away.

Lesson? Don’t assume. Be careful.

I LOVE my dog, a Black Mouth Cur, but I am intensely aware that he has capacity for biting. Sort of like being a responsible spoon owner.

Not all Terriers are to be lumped into one Breed, the term Pit Bull doesn't apply to all. That like lumping in any rifle to be called a AR-15.

Yes you could call some breeds a AR-15, like the full sized Bull Terrier that is built like Mike Tyson and is a tank.

Staffordshire Terriers are a much smaller version. They're much more tamer too.

But critics say that pit bulls are inherently dangerous no matter how they’re treated, because violence is in their DNA. “Why do herding dogs herd? Why do pointing dogs point? They don’t learn that behavior, that’s selective behavior,” says Colleen Lynn, president and founder of DogsBite.org, a national dog-bite-victims group dedicated to reducing dog attacks. “Pit bulls were specifically bred to go into that pit with incredible aggression and fight.”

They did genetic testing on all the dogs that attacked? If the Pitbull are classified by speculation the data is basically useless. What percent pit bull makes a pit bull? Staffordshire terriorors and American bully, are they pit bulls?

I have some internal debate over weather or not a dog that resembles traits attributed to pit bulls should be considered dangerous. Makes for some interesting discussions. However I don't trust the statistics. AT all.

Quote:
nterestingly, animal shelters across America today are moving away from trying to identify any dogs by breed because sight identification has proven to be extremely unreliable. Many different combinations of breeds can look like a “pit bull.” Here at The Animal Foundation, we have DNA tested many of our dogs that are lumped into the pitbull category and have found cocker spaniel, boxer, golden retriever, bulldog, German shepherd, Boston terrier, and many other breeds in their heritage. For some dogs, assigning even one main breed is a challenge. Based on the research that exists – it’s been shown that almost 90 percent of shelter dogs visually identified as a breed are not identified accurately – and our own experiences, we no longer try to assign a breed to any dog, unless they come with breed registration papers.

That works for the animal aggression Steve, but that is about it.

My Staffordshire is about 90 pounds. Total sweetheart. Patient of mine has a pit he brings in that is the most affectionate animal I have ever seen.

I'm no expert on this, of course. I do think something needs to be done, though. Just like with guns, IMO.

1. FACT: The “Pit Bull” is not an official breed.
“Pit Bull” is an umbrella term commonly reported to contain the following 3 registered breeds of dogs: Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and American Pit Bull Terrier.

Many dogs that are classified as “pit bulls” are actually a combination of mixed breed dogs of unknown pedigree or other purebred dogs which bear some physical resemblance. It is not easy to identify a dog’s breed origin(s) from appearance alone, therefore many dogs who are labeled as Pit Bull-type dogs are actually not.

https://www.arlboston.org/5-facts-about-pit-bull-type-dogs/

The truth is dogs—especially dogs younger than two-years-old—who are not spayed or neutered are much more likely to exhibit violent behavior than dogs who are fixed.

My suspicion is any dog with a blocky head and short ears is a pitt bull according to the news.

our 50lb, not muscular, scared of everything, never growled at anything doggo is 21% pit bull according to the 99$ I wasted on a genetic test. She is also 20% american bully.

Listed as a lab mix by the shelter, though I suppose they were 14% correct.

Truely went out of my way to avoid a "pit bull" when trying to do the right thing by saving a rescue dog, and was legitimately nervous when the testing said she was a mix of aggressive breeds since I have small kids.

2.5 years later have changed my position a lot. She is a sweetie and her biggest fault is sneaking into our room to sleep on our bed which my wife hates.

Dolly parton the 21% viscious pit bull

Can someone link the Audi Doberhuahua commercial.... hadn't seen it in years .... funny too!

No fan of PB's or mixes .... my tales of the 17 I was around since birth are in the archives ... my friend's wife is lucky to be alive .... trying to break up dog fights ... last one was put down a year ago. I loved those dogs, and they loved me .... but I've got stories and scars on my arms .... too many .

Bred to fight .... and ya never know when "it's GO time" ... and then it's on.

Lots of great breeds (NOT breads )... PBs and Chows .... and Chihuahuas just aren't for me.

Love Dobies...

It's always tragic for me to read these .... but no surprise.... btdt. And my friends are no different than most dog owners ... sorry .... I digress....

Ticking Freakin' Time Bombs .... some of them, not all. But you never know until you do... sometimes too late .

People who selectively bred them to have this trait are EVIL imo.

What percentage have "it" in them? I dunno....
