It would be far cheaper to make the cars smaller than make the tracks bigger.

Monaco has always been a problem, but moreso since the late 60s when the cigar car shape changed - see the Monaco historics for reference. Given the billions of dollars floating around that place during that week, it's going to be on the calendar. But yes, it's a silly race, and you get the trophy not for winning, but for being the one that didn't effitup.

IDT tracks are going to get bigger but most all of the established tracks have undergone major safety improvements with more runoff etc. Tight city streets just don't need to be. I will admit the Las Vegas track looked pretty good but I wasn't there. I'm in Long Beach so I know a street course. It's OK at just over 2 miles but very unforgiving with only 2 runoff areas and one escape that is convenient but not necessary.

F1 doesn't run on walled ovals so you can't compare that. However, without walls there would be a lot less carnage for cars that do race inside of walls. It's been a tradition for over a century but that doesn't mean the concept shouldn't be reviewed. Gotta start somewhere and some of the F1 tracks in use are pretty tight.

Smaller cars is part of the answer but at today's speeds a smaller car is going to be effectively much the same. What I'm saying is a lot of racing has become the X Games.

In the end, Indy wouldn't be Indy without the walls and 4 corners so there is bound to be carnage. It's what they do. Talladega is going to have the big one 9 times out of 10. If drivers and owners are good with that, who am I to say otherwise?

But you have to love Spa, right?

What I find ironic is the announcers were saying the statistical chances of a safety car was 100% yet there was no safety car on the last race. So much for statistics.

Maybe they included 'virtual' safety car.

Wow, that is an impressive hire. Technical leadership of course, but also significant insight into the power structure of F1.

"It has since emerged that several senators have asked the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to commence a formal investigation.

The House's Judiciary Committee has already launched its own probe into the matter."

Unbelievable. Antitrust suit? I suppose there has always been politics in racing but these kinds of politics?

I'm not too hip on driver's unions or federations but I have heard that they occupy an influential position in matters concerning racing taken as a whole. But how much I haven't a clue.

What I would be interested in is how they would act WRT to racing becoming a target for federal investigation. Not that they have the means to fully understand the big picture, but it seems fair to hear another side of the story.

Or maybe not. Just random food for thought. I hate to see authority that confined.

Great hire but to what gain, F1 said no, so at a minimum they would be 2 years out from a yes. That’s a lot of investment over time for a 50/50 shot…

Wonder what's his beef with Michael Andretti.

Something has been lost in the translation. "Michael" I'm sure is a reference to Andretti (now known as) Global.

The mere fact that MA renamed the team global is somewhat presumptuous. He might do well to win some championships where he is now.

MAV TV showed the Monaco Historic races weekend before last. First, it was really cool to see the old cars on circuit. The drivers were not just taking parade laps and several damaged their cars. Secondly, I couldn't get over just how small the cars were in eras past. They could actually race each other around Monaco circuit.

Qualifying is going to be insane. A clean lap will not be easy to get.

Exciting qualifying. I’m personally very happy with the grid order.

I hope the race works out in a similar fashion.

I watched those a couple weekends ago. Really cool to see them again. I went to the F1 race in Dallas in 1984 and while I couldn’t get into pits to see them up close, there was a show car in a Dallas mall that weekend. I couldn’t believe how small it was. Not much bigger than a Malibu Grand Prix car of the time. Of course the 19” wide rear tires of the era where huge!
