He still won’t win. Could be good for Alonzo though.

Just about everyone hates on Stroll Jr. But there are worse drivers on the grid. He's just a fair to middlin' F1 driver. But he's not a hazard out there, like a couple other drivers that come to mind. If each of us had his talent and a daddy willing to make dreams come true, we'd all be living the F1 life, too.

I agree, he's a journeyman driver at best. He's just put in a bad spot because of Sr. He just doesn't look happy in F1.

Yeah this. The guy does come off like an entitled prick but he’s had to live with all the ire of critics like a lot of you in here.

My dad gave me a leg up. I’ll do whatever I can to do same for my kids. Give the guy a break!

I have a friend of mine that was was involved in a driver development program in Florida back when Lance was coming up. Lawrence was very involved and my friend got to know him. He says he wasn't an azzhole he just lives in a different world when it comes to money. Lawrence doesn't do rental cars. He shipped several of his Ferrari's down to drive while he was in Florida. He sent his jet down to south Florida to pick up my friend up and bring back up for a party. He uses his jet like we use a spare car. They had $30K in tools and equipment (rolling Matco tool boxes, shop tables, chairs, TV's, pit equipment etc.) that was bought for this development program. After it was completed, Lawrence just let him keep it all.

The cost of the item isn't even a consideration. He's like a dad of a little leaguer that buys him a spot in the Bigs.

Lances F3 project for the 2016 Euro Championship was one of my all time favourite car projects

Was a lot of fun but still have pangs of guilt from breaking the championship and shattering the F1 dreams of a few faster drivers

Stroll is a complete mystery to me.. He has been dangerous at times, he has been absolutely embarrassingly nowhere at others, and he has had amazing results other times (in the wet too).
My guess is he doesn't have the hunger of a poor origin like HAM or ALO to develop his skills - which exist. I give him full marks for risking his life in F1 when he could live a life of luxury without, but then why go half-ass ? (seemingly anyway - still you do not feel the intensity of WC material)

Newey's now official, in the least surprising announcement ever ;-)
It'll be interesting to see if he can pull a rabbit out of Stroll's hat - in any case that may be the first time Alonso picked "right" (assuming he stays)...

Next announcement, Marko retires - takes up some mysterious role at AM, and Jos is seen dinning with Lawrence in Baku. Bye bye Fred.

Very interesting race . Congratulations to the winner he drove a smart race . Excellent results for Williams . The Sainz/Perez incident was sad to see that's not how you want to end the race . Bearman did well . Yuki and Lance probably not going to exchange Christmas cards this year

McLaren now have the constructors championship lead . Can Red Bull respond ? Does McLaren have more upgrades coming ? Will they work ? And can't rule out Ferrari. These last races will be fun to watch .

I haven't checked out slow motion replays of the Sainz/Perez incident but when they showed in car camera view of Sainz, I didn't see his hands move left at all.

Best bit of racing in F1 in years. Lots of lead changes, and real racing between the top 5 cars. Not a boring race at any level.

That was an outstanding race! Except for Perez crash. Oscar earned that one with outstanding, clean driving. I love how when Max isn’t competitive, everything is the cars’ and teams’ fault 😁

Agree with this. His steering wheel appeared to be dead horizontal from the in-car. I'm sure their will be plenty of data for those who are on the inside to review.

I'm wondering if a "side-draft" effect exists with the current F1 aero packages (similar to closed wheel sedans/sports cars), that wants to pull the cars together? Could the well-worn tires have allowed some lateral slippage?

Still, a great race. Very entertaining for a change. The fact that it was totally absent the raving, shout-fest that is Crofty, made it must more enjoyable. Hope that develops into a permanent change!

I agree 100% I miss his yelling as much as a toothache.

I wish the SKY announcers would learn to NOT all take at once. One time all four of them were talking and it was pure gibberish. Not one of them would shut up and let the someone else make a point. They need to figure out how to not all talk over each other.

F1TV... the main guy gets a bit excited at starts but after that it's pretty nice... Jolyon Palmer is a great commentator too.. Have not missed sky whatsoever - though if you get Sky for free, I get it. i cut that cord so f1Tv was a no brainer, been excellent for 3+ years now, all sessions, all analysis, Supercup, etc.

What I saw was two cars headed toward the same
converging point and neither deviated from the collision course.
Perez just gradually drove straight into him.
Like a really expensive game of chicken.

he deserves the blame for it IMO since he was back
and in the blind spot.
His responsibility to correct and avoid collision.

yup... I would really love it if while everyone is 100% on VER/NOR someone like PIA or LEC would sneak in and beat them to it by a point, Kimi style...

Just found the steward's report on the crash:

Quote:
“This is a situation where a small touch had significant consequences,” said the stewards.

“The Stewards reviewed how the incident occurred, not the consequence.

“Sainz passed Perez after Turn 1 and was completely ahead at the apex of Turn 2. With a compromised exit by Sainz, Perez pulled to the inside of Sainz.

“Sainz reported that he was aware of Perez to his inside. Perez, being slightly behind, was in a better position to see the relative location of the cars. But, as the two cars approached the wall on the right at the exit of Turn 2, they were about 1m apart.

“From this point and throughout the incident, neither driver steered erratically, and indeed both kept their steering very neutral.

“The Stewards checked the driving line of the drivers on previous laps. Sainz was on or close to his normal racing line, which forms a slight angle away from the right-hand wall.

“From the exit to the point of contact, he moved approximately one car width further away from the wall. Perez moved approximately half a car width further away from the same wall, being more parallel to the right-hand wall.

“It was thus apparent that while ahead, and having the right to drive his line, Sainz did move slightly towards a car that he had limited vision of. At the same time, there was nothing unusual about Perez’s line, but he could have done more to avoid the car that he had a better view of.

“In conclusion, the Stewards deem this to be a racing incident with neither driver being predominantly at fault, and take no further action.”
