He said something after George crossed the finish line, but Sky didn't play whatever was said.

Really, you think Mercedes would try to pull a stunt like that? The reputational harm would end careers. Put the conspiracy books down....

Merc wouldn't do that, but George's race engineer should have factored in the additional wear on his tires on that long run. Of course. George couldn't have gone off the racing line either to collect marbles without risking his position with Ham and Piastri behind him. Live and learn.

Collectung tyre marbles to add weight would make no difference

A reference set of tyres are used when weighing the car

Interesting. That makes almost too much sense for the FIA. Every car I have ever seen at the end of the race drove through the marbles before stopping. I guess they are kidding themselves.

Not implying MB did anything on purpose but saying he may have found out that there was a problem with meeting the weight limit during the race.

Oh, wow, interesting.. why are they told to do it after the race most of the time then (or at least were told). Is this a new rule ?

Also, are they the weight of a new tire, or a race used tire? I assume the rubber tread that is worn off is a few pounds.

Well Williams is moving in the right direction, at least, but he deserves a better seat I think.

Or did RUS make too many intro laps prior to grid staging. With a 4 mile track he may have burned off more fuel than anticipated

^^^ Agree he needs a better car than they can provide. So much of this is about timing of open seats and contracts and available options.

Fuel doesn't matter:

The rule that quashed Russell’s victory and handed a second win of the season to Hamilton is Article 4.1 of F1’s technical rules, regarding “minimum mass” of each car.

This states: “The mass of the car, without fuel, must not be less than 798kg, at all times during the competition.

So in Spa they don’t let you do a cool down lap, do you think he could have picked up 3 lbs of rubber otherwise?

Who’s out a Williams?

I don’t care what you call it, until I’m proven otherwise it is a Sauber!

Williams has won championships. Has the pedigree.

Here’s hoping both teams get better.
