The return of Steak and Ale

https://www.eatthis.com/steak-and-ale-returning-april-2024/?fbclid=IwAR20UEYkktWrxMhZNgrYX0AW7X-3WaTjWHdhundlFbzxWW3vZgsmd9s3600

Steak and Ale closed in our town in the 1980's, so I'm looking forward to this.

Very nice.

That's my sort of place. A big steak, fries, tiny bit of salad. And quite a lot to drink.

I'm not into those places where you get a spoonful of something quite exquisite but feel like stopping at McDonalds for something to eat on the way home.

When we lived in Orlando there was one near us . Always enjoyed the meal and ambiance . I wish them success .

There was one in Jax when I lived there in the 80s ... my buddy worked there ... he was probably 20 back then. I never went there, but after he had "moved on", I casually "spoofed on the name" as we were driving past it one day ... he never got to use it and was laughing his butt off....

The old "Ache and Stale" lives again

There one near me was great. Always a bit dark as far as lighting, but a nice salad bar, good steak, and beer. I took may dates there before getting married.

I remember them from years ago. Relatively nice on the inside, nice on the outside, good food. It was a bit expensive for me when I was younger. I don't think I've been to one in about 30 years.

Hopefully, the new version is nice and succeeds.

I always think it's funny how there were/are several "dark" restaurants in town that haven't changed (or been cleaned ) in their 30-40 year runs. Some chinese places I know fit the bill. Steak and ale also.

In our town, this WAS the 1970's high end steak place. Perhaps it went downhill, maybe it was never that great, but I remember people standing in long lines to get. You'd better have reservations. I was a kid, so our family going there was a rare and special event. I think we even tied going to steak and ale with watching the original Star Wars. It was only topped by "The Groaning Board". They had a 24/7 fireplace going outside. Big stuff in the 70's.

Perhaps never meet your heros, but for me, fire up the torino, shop some chess king, get some floresheim shoes, and hit the steak joint.

There were chain restaurants here in New Zealand back in the 1970s called Cobb and Co. they were quite good. I was out of town a few months ago and saw one. Yay, for old time's sake I'll go in and have a steak meal. OMG the steaks were 500 grams. That's about 17 or 18 ounces. And a huge pile of fries. I finished it and finished off GF's meal too. I was quite full LOL

Stake and Ale sounds familiar. I don’t know about them, but there were some restaurants in the 70s where it was all the beer you could drink with your meal. It’s amazing how long a steak and potato lasted.😂

They were all built in this style, at least, all of the Steak & Ales that I've ever seen.

^^^ That's it!!!!

The last one I went to was taking a girl out on a college date in Roanoke, Va.
We sat down and she said she wasn't hungry and didn't want steak. I enjoyed mine!
WTH?!?!?!

Traditional steakhouses are not faring well in the age of changing diets (vegetarians, vegans) and just those eating a bit healthier. The cost of beef has also put a traditional steak house meal out of reach for many. I can't imagine this working well.

Add to this the fact that 220 seat restaurants are out of vogue and financially unsustainable and I wonder how this "comeback story" is being financed. This has a real organized crime feel to it.

I don’t know if they have a Texas Roadhouse out your way, but they are doing a booming business in the Midwest.
