I read the sent a mayday and were able to shut down the highway? Could have been worse?

It will be interesting on how quickly they can rebuild the bridge vs the bridge in Atlanta, Pennsylvania, etc.

Eight construction workers were filling pot holes on the bridge , all 8 fell into the river . So far 2 have been rescued . I fear the others have been lost . Supposedly at least 5 cars have been identified as being under water . What a tragedy .

I'm with KC911 on this one.
Yes, it's tragic but it would have been/could have been soooo much worse if that bridge had been full of traffic.

RIP to those that lost their lives.

I wonder what the impact is, not just in lives lost, but the commute for folks traveling and shipping, both coming and going and ships stuck at the port? It’s going to be huge.

Yeah. Let's hope the terrorists out there don't see how this is a way to cripple us. Kind of like taking down the freeway system here in LA would do it.

Apparently, lots of bridges are built that way where it's like cutting a string, everything will collapse... terrifying... Makes you wonder (asking bridge engineers) if maybe where heavy boat traffic is present it would not be possible to build them so individual portions remain stable independently - I bet it costs more and is not always feasible (more supports)...

On top of the loss of life, I cannot imagine how the area will be $%$#%$# for a long time by the disappearance of a crossing point, and how all that debris in the water will affect entrance to the port itself - surely that'll create another ukraine situation for supplies in the US ?! Yikes.

Looking at google maps, this bridge is at the outer most entrance to the harbor. Worst place for it to have happened shipping wise.

Very powerful pictures.

In all the years I have lived in Maryland, 1988 until today, I have never driven over that bridge.

My Son is a Cyber Security Specialist for Ports America. He just flew back last night from Long Beach Harbor where he has been setting up "firewalls" to prevent hacking into the ship's navigation systems. He says they get up to 23k hacking attempts per week.

Their hacking attempts are to either interrupt our supply chain or cause ships to go adrift until a ransom is paid. Everything on these vessels is "fly by wire" these days. There were 2 Harbor Masters on board the Dali when the accident occurred. I would think it would also be escorted by Tug boats.

He feels there could be something sinister involved. Baltimore is one of his ports and shipping is going to be crippled for a good while until things can be put back together. Godspeed to those involved.

Apparently this ship needs better captains , not the first time it has hit a bridge !

Was there time for the port to dispatch tug boats?

WTF are you talking about, any idea at all? Ever been on a boat more than 25' long? Any concept of how they maintain a large vessel like this? No, I thought not

In case you aren't aware of the importance to our supply chain that the Port of Baltimore and Chesapeake is..
