Leafs Bruins is not good hockey. No one has really stood out as 'great' offensively, it's all collapse down and block most shots, chip the puck out, or ice it, run long offensive zone cycles with no shots, and then dump and chase (then lose possession).

That's not great entertainment.

Or good hockey. Dump and chase is good for line changes but that's it. Plus carrying it in takes balls.

Duya think Da Broons miss Patrice (was a helluva player IMHO) Bergeron? I vote yes & I don't even like Da Broons!

Go Canucks!!

Cheers

Hey Flat

I was of the mind 'dump-n-chase' was an effective counter-measure for the "1 - 3 - 1 defence" which can turn any game into a snooze-fest. The L.A. Kings were the latest practitioners of this boring & stultifying style of game. Mind you, the "oinklers" took care of that with a couple dudes who can play-a-bit.

Down go the Preds & Cheers
JB

They gonna go down, if he doesn't wake up and start making good on the "open net" opportunities.

He is playing like the new Johnny Hockey in the playoffs. Hide don't seek.

Watched the Leafs/Bruins last night. Was entertaining.

Hawkeye's-911T 05-04-2024 11:34 AM

One cannot say that a couple of the first round playoffs (e.g. Leafs/Broons - Canucks/Preds) have lacked drama &/or excitement - not to mention some moments of damn good hockey. As one pundit posited: they'll sell you the whole seat but you'll only use or need the the edge of it.
While I have no allegiance to either team to night - I expect another (to paraphrase billybek) entertaining game.

Enjoy the game Guys & Cheers
JB

Ahh - maybe a tad for the Leafs

Heck yeah! We had an "unfair" advantage when our #1 center was winning 65 % of the faceoffs. He was also awesome in the bumper position and he made everyone look better with his tape to tape passes.

p.s. Krech was no slouch either.

Boy oh boy did Swayman ever save yer azz tonight. Who else but Pastr for the win?

100%
Pasta has been a negative the entire series but that was the most beautiful goal in 7 Games.

Sammy played lights out goaltending too.

LOL my record for bad predictions in playoffs holds true.

1990C4S 05-05-2024 04:54 AM

The winning goal was a series of mistakes that typify the Leafs. Tavares a bit too soft challenging the shoot in. Lybushkin backs inside the blue line, Marner puck watching, never saw Pasta behind him, Morgan Reilly turns the wrong way and loses a step letting Pasta get to the net alone, and Samsonov way too deep in the net, doesn't/can't make the poke check. Of course Willy is floating back, gliding into the zone.

The Leafs made a valiant comeback, they just do not have the killer instinct. Pasta and Marchand do.

Por_sha911 05-05-2024 12:09 PM

During playoff OT, I always look for some obscure 4 line player to make the winning goal. Someone one nobody watches because they are double covering the 'important' players.
Last night's goal was Pasta's first! I hope it is the beginning of many.

Now I have to watch (and make believe I am rooting for) the Rangers since my bride is a Rangers fan.

After the Leaf's OT loss, I'll need to unsubscribe from this thread for a bit :(

In the eight (nine?) years of this core four group playoff failures I think this is the best they've looked. Probably because they had a supporting cast that could play the type of hockey you need in the playoffs.

But the core four demonstrated they don't have the killer instinct. Again. Big changes are needed.

Da Broons vs Cats - looks to being a rough series as the late game excrement hit the turbine yesterday.

The Canucks, after a a disastrous start & so-so first period of the game, managed to make the 'oinklers' look very average in the last 1/2 of the 2nd & mostly in the 3rd periods. With McDavid getting no shots - you can bet he'll be something pi$$ed-off come game time tomorrow after his squad blowing a 3 goal lead early in the 2nd. It'll be an interesting test & should give a 'tell' on which team will prevail. The eventual "lucky" winners of this series most likely get to face the 'Lanche'.

Cheers
JB

P.S. The team from "Hogtown" still getting 'lotsa-ink'

Hawkeye's-911T 05-13-2024 12:08 PM

Looks as though the "Department of/for Player Safety" has an upcoming busy schedule. Play-off 'weighted' suspensions in the offing - maybe ........

Cheers
JB

Por_sha911 05-13-2024 05:12 PM

Marchand got sucker punched by Bennett in game 3 - instead of a call from player safety Bennett gets to play game 4 and Marchard is out due to injury. What the heck!?!?
To make matters worse, Bennett does a blatant goalie interference and then scores in game 4.:mad:

Someone needs to fire the refs and player safety. They are more biased than a NY DA doing a hatchet job on a politician.

p.s. EVERY sports commentator I've read said the sucker punch deserved a suspension and the goalie interference non call was a travesty of justice.
