I used to race an S10 and one of my racing buddies put a SBC (not an LS) into a first gen and loves it. Not a bad truck. Not a great race car. But...it could lap Road Atlanta at around a 1:55 all day long with the stock 4.3...

A buddy had an S10 with a V8 when I was in the Navy. It was crazy fast. We were in Pascagoula and he bought from a guy in Louisiana, that guy did the transplant. It wasn't pretty, probably did the swap in their backyard, but the angry noises it made gave us many smiles.

We probably were closer to death than we ever realized.

Done properly and complete, a V8 swap would be really nice.

Then there's this, as mentioned earlier in this thread...yum

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1991-gmc-syclone-79/

$75k with 7 hours left.

Well I bought it 😋 . Drove 3.5 hours to see it this morning . Truck looks good and runs good . Test drive went great . Seller is a great guy we had a good conversation . He was asking 10.5 I offered 10 and the rest is history .

Gave him a deposit to hold it I actually pick it up in 2 weeks . A planned vacation is the reason . I have pics but too tired to resize , maybe tomorrow .

Sweet. Looking forward to seeing/hearing it.

It sounds like a great buy! I think that’s a good deal for a really fun truck.

That BaT Syclone I linked above bid to $75k, no sale. I know it’s a different truck, but I think it makes your buy even better.

That's funny. My friend bought his Syclone for $100 over invoice, around $25K.

Nicely done. Someone put in a lot of effort to get things looking right under the hood.

Yeah I didn't see any evidence of wiring hacks and everything looks nicely routed . The guy I am buying it from told me that he has had it on a lift and all looks good underneath . Part of a V8 conversion is cutting the crossover beam for clearance to the oil pan . He said the shop did a clean cut and boxed it all in .

The hood is all metal , apparently GM offers this as an option ? The cowl induction scoop looks neat . The seller was nervous about installing a Vortec engine cover because it might hit the new hood .

From what I have read the cover adds about 1.5 " to the height . The intake system is not very appealing to look at so I will probably come up with something .

Yea, they make a expensive oil pan if you do not want to cut the frame. Not needed on my old school SBC.

I didn't know that was an option . Oh well what's done is done . I have a lot to learn about the GM hot rod arena .

The hard work is done. Probably just be driving it. I did put back brakes on mine yesterday. Through the rivets on the shoe. $35 fix. Thats another good thing about the S10s. Parts are cheap and not hard to find.

Most beautimus!

And the paint scheme is blank canvas just waiting for a subtle red sticker someplace that matches the red bow tie on the grill.

How's the drive and sound? Civilized and stable?

Yeah I have been looking online and parts much more reasonable than Porsche parts . This one still has rear drum brakes . Once I get it on the road I am just going to drive it .

Very civilized to drive . It has long tube headers and aftermarket mufflers . The two mufflers are mounted side by side with the cans vertical vs horizontal . Odd but I guess space limited . No clue what brand of mufflers but they are subtle .

The mufflers have simple turn down tips . I will probably see if an exhaust shop can extend the pipes to the rear . At the very least to exit in front of the rear wheels but would prefer behind the rear wheels or straight out the back .

That looks like it'll make for a nice daily driver. Clean looking and with the auto it'll be no chore to drive.

I can't wait to see a pic of that exhaust system. Hard to imagine the cans vertical.

That sounds like a very well done build on so many levels.
