If it’s only about profit, with no pride or value, everyone would just be selling opioids and McDonalds

There are far, far easier ways to make money than to try to do it by making jet airplanes. One has to be truly enamored to even consider such a proposition, to risk everything to build such an enterprise.

In sharp contrast, it is extremely attractive to take over a company that does such things, that has been built by generations of people who truly believe in what they are doing, and milk it dry. No risk whatsoever. Guaranteed salary, ludicrous "bonuses", obscene severance packages. That is what we are seeing at Boeing. And, well, unfortunately, too many similar legacy companies, built over generations of risk and genuine commitment to something in which they believe.

There is so much of that happening. I've mentioned a book here before that I highly recommend if you want to see a true-life description of the gutting and destruction of a legacy company and the town that depended on it - "Glass House" by Brian Alexander.

Anchor-Hocking was established in 1905 and its destruction began in 1965 when it fell victim to a series of "growth by acquisition" companies that didn't care what products their acquired companies made, as long as the could be milked for profit. Anchor-Hocking was the primary employer in Lancaster, Ohio, and when the venture capitalists finished off the company it killed the town too.
It's a tragic story, truly heartbreaking what the vultures did to the people of that town.

Yet another fantastic post in this excellent thread. And this directly from the horses mouth! We need more passion and appreciation of quality in our world and less 'max dollars'.

Best thread in a long time here.

Another example, although some here wouldn't agree...Porsche lost it's "soul" when the family left the firm.

Going all EV soon surely points to that.

I'm still impressed by the 911, 718, and Cayman.

Counterfeit titanium in jets

Saw a video on YouTube of a dude in a Boxster spyder on back roads, manual transmission, that video gave me goosebumps. I’m talking primal hard on for a car. driver was extremely talented and perhaps a little too risk tolerant for public roads but holy **** was it incredible. The sound was just amazing.

Been to Philadelphia lately?

In all seriousness, I think that is a common hustle for a majority of americans; delivering food or ride share while selling dope on the side.

Long time friend of mine is a retired FAA inspector. He is now a DER and has been working part time with several "hole in the wall parts places" re-certifing aircraft parts. So far he has not seen many fake parts but they are out there. The ones he has seen have been from overseas and fairly easy to spot but that sure scares us. Especially now that in my life retiring from flying that I am an A&P/IA...
