Buying a Macan, what should I bee looking for?

Checking out a few different Macans for the Mrs.
From a '17 to a '23. Anyone here have experience with them?

My wife loves her 2017 base Macan. It is still fast and comfortable. Zero issues at all. Just routine maintenance.

we have a '21. no issues so far. My wife did back into a tree (which has not moved since we bought the house) in our driveway twice broke the center light. Suncoast has very reasonable pricing. Was not hard to replace.

transfer case failures (porsche offered extended warranties as these were failing before 100k), PDK's that don't shift crisply.

Front/timing chain cover oil leaks. This used to be a 10k expense and was a problem on many macans, Porsche released a TSB that tells you how to fix the leaks with the engine in place, and just replacing the top aluminum bolts that shear. Our 2018 GTS is due for that one, the local dealer wanted to pull the motor the last time they saw the car, I suggested they read the TSB.

As above, have a 18 GTS as well. As mentioned transfer case and timing chain covers. I also had a coolant leak in a stupidly placed crossover hose at the back of the engine that required engine out. (23 hours)
I think my timing chain covers are leaking again (have already have had the bolts done), so this time it will be an engine out.
I’m really glad I re-upped for CPO as I am not sure I’d want to own one out of warranty.

Just got back from a 1700Km road trip and the Macan is a fantastic road cruiser!

Get the 4 banger. My Macan S was fast and comfy, but had a leaking timing chain cover with a sheared bolt. It was also more thirsty than a sailor on shore leave.

40k and 80 k pdk service prices unreasonably high. Make sure you are not near it.

2nd this. Not sure if it’s still a problem, but my wife’s ‘14 Cayenne went through, I think, 4 transfer cases in about 110k if I recall. Thankfully, all covered by Porsche. We’ve since sold it, but it was a phenomenal vehicle other than that issue. I know you are asking about Macan, but I think they had the same issues with TC. The only good news is that the problem would not strand you - you would just feel a “bucking” when accelerating.

My wife has a '17 Macan GTS and she just loves it. Bought it with 9K miles on it from Palm Springs Porsche - CPO and in perfect condition.

We have a 2015 S. Wife's car. Bought used through dealer with CPO. I think it had 55k or so on it when we got it. Always dealer serviced, one owner, blah blah. The trans went into limp mode and died about 2 months before the warranty expired. Dodged that bullet. They just replace vs diagnose if under warranty. Just had the front shocks done, water pump, etc. at about 85k. Very expensive parts wise. I tried to talk her into a new something else when she bought it, but she loves the thing. Hopefully we'll be buried in it. She's retired and doesn't drive much. I wouldn't do it again unless I could get a real extended warranty. Porsche CPO covered us but their 2 year deal is a joke compared to others.

If you are not going to work on it yourself it is extremely expensive to maintain. Just be aware that most service items on the front of the vehicle involve putting the front into service mode which can be 6 to 8 hours of labor.

We have a 16 Turbo with only 50K Kms on it. Apparantly it is the wife's car, so I don't drive it often lol.

Went down to 20 inch wheels for summer and winter and it is much better. Has a tune in it and it is a rocket ship. Drives like a sports car and is not short of power....

We service a lot of Macans of all iterations in the shop. Timing cover leaks on the V6 cars is the only common issue. Porsche has a TSB on a "hopefull" fix which works sometimes. You can prevent a leak with the TSB but in terms of repair of an existing leak, it is hit and miss. The full repar is many hours a few $$$.

Otherwise, great cars.

Are there certain models or engines to stay away from? (in that 2017 and up realm..)

The cars you want all have the same pitfalls. S and GTS and turbo all is the V6 with timing chain cover issues. They all have the transfer case troubles too.

lol, They all do not have transfer case trouble....

We recommend a fluid change in the transfer case every year, just like with the Cayennes...

Inexpensive service--- and ounce or provention vs a pound of cure.

My wife ordered her car to be built to her specs. She went for the base Macan, not for price, but gas mileage. And it is far from slow. It will get on any Interstate ramp in a hurry. She was returning from Stillwater, OK with three passengers on a two lane road. They came up behind a guy pulling a trailer going 45 MPH. He waved them to pass so she punched it, and passed safely and the passengers all said wow, and one said we are going 80! I have taught her that passing on two lane roads should be done rapidly to get back over in a safe manner.

It does handle much like my 911. And I suspect in a drag race she would out run my 85 911. Not that that is any major feat in modern cars.

The heat and air conditioning are unbelievably good. She returned from an errand, and parked in the garage. 15 minutes later we backed out, and by the time we were at the bottom of the driveway, it was blowing cold air. The heater is more amazing. On a day it was down in the single digits, we did not go 500 feet before it was blowing hot hair and the bun warmers were warming up. I have no idea how it can do that. Magic.

So, after all this and looking around, after diving one the missus decided she really don't like it. " Its a nice car but its too big.."
