Agreed. My wife loves it too. Not me. Since she is watching, I’ll continue. Hate every character in this show, including BBT. Just the fact that he puts up with the ex wife for more that 5 seconds makes me hate him even more. Grow some balls and toss her and the daughter out. Banish them. The script writing is atrocious.

I can't stand the daughter's character. I hope there's some vindication for the story arc there but as she's portrayed this season, she's so vapid that not the least bit entertaining.

The ex-wife on the other hand illustrates the crazy-hot matrix to a tee. But it also illustrates a dynamic that strikes a chord with me, she could have anyone, at least for a romp but is infatuated with BBT. So he puts up with a lot for that.

The father-son talk scene also struck a chord with me. I'm sure there's a literary term for how it was presented but the difference in the two father-son relationships shows that cycles can be broken.

I know in my case it was and I recently told my dad that I recognized his efforts for giving better than he got.

I liked that scene.
I like the son character. Cant stand the widow girlfriend..horrible actor and character...whenever those two are on screen I yell at the TV, "get the hell away from her kid!"

The old man lawyer that lives with them is also funny. The woman lawyer is vile. In almost 30 years of working as a lawyer I have never encountered anyone as ridiculous as her...even working in the bowels of NYC. Totally phony and over the top.

The ex-wife...the series would have been just fine without that annoying character.

The college interview scene with the daughter did make me laugh but I think that is the only time I have laughed.

I know its "just a movie" but I find myself yelling alot when it is on

I think I am not cut out for these soap opera type series. Thats basically all they are to me.

I have enjoyed Slow Horses but this past season sucked I thought. Hopefully next season it will pick up

I'm not even sure whether this is S3 or just the 2nd season, but after last year's series, which I seemed to have to watch to the end, was enough for me. I have to agree with your assessments. In my case it's don't waste the time.

If this is only the 2nd season that tells me enough about S1, just too much. Taylor Sheridan has written some interesting shows but it's all cookie cutter once you've been through one of his series. Modern "Dallas" which sprang forth its own set of copies like the grape grower "Falcon Crest."

They are Soap Operas, nothing more. Interestingly, George Lucas has been given credit for developing the 3 stories in 1 format used commonly since. This was a main criticism when he and Coppola shopped American Graffiti around to the various studios in '72. I guess the studios thought it was too complicated for wide spread success.

Look at us now.

H2S is no joke. Our landfill gas can exceed 1000 ppm in places. 100 ppm can be deadly.

Yup still only at the start of season 2

My wife just binged on Peacock, ALL HER FAULT or whatever it was called. I had to join and then watch and then cancel the subscription before I forget to cancel. We managed to finish it in 3 days. I guess it as an interesting story but it could have been told in about 2 episodes at most.

I managed to go from the age of 18 to the age of 40 without cable. The past 13 years with cable and almost every imaginable subscription service, I have thrown alot of money down the toilet.

I can get by with Youtube Premium (no commercials) on my big screen TV or Ipad and be happy with just that but with AI and content creators running out of things to say or do or review....even that is getting very old. I am at the point where I only use Youtube to learn how to repair my toilet or for studying music theory. I have about a thousand DVD and BluRays that I have collected and could be content just watching those from time to time.

Get off my lawn

Which is why I was wondering why they didn't immediately try to get away in their vehicles. Guess they wanted dramatic effect.....

I have worked in H2S places, so the scene is bogus.

Our trainer hammered into our heads about 1000 times, if you see your colleague suddenly fall over, run the other way as fast as you can.

The colleague is dead already and you will be too if you go to help him or the H2S comes your way.

Get your airpack out of the truck, put it on and once you know it is working....then call help and then go see what is up with your colleague.

Similar in gas plants, if you see someone fall over or running, hit the dump and run yourself.

Had a student run as they were late for something, caused an unneeded plant dump and the reaming out done by the plant manager on that student was a work of beauty with phrases, commentary and soft threats made into a continuous stream of profanity.

Lovely....the wallpaper blistered...

Lots of technical flaws regarding safety and hazmat but I have spent some time in the area and the lifestyle is not too far off. This is the modern equivalent of the 1849 gold rush era. Live fast, love hard, die young.

I'm a little disappointed with the new season. Thus far, it has been more about the ex-wife and daughter than anything else. Honestly, their shenanigans are just stupid. Tommy says 'no' and Angela just does whatever she wants.

The female lawyer is not hard to look at but I've never been around a situation in my 25 years of law where I just tell someone off and how it will be and they capitulate. Nor have I seen such. Had an opposing counsel call me an A-hole one time on the phone and hang up on me because my client wouldn't take his outrageously high plea offer. I schooled him in court and got a sentence of less than 1% of what he had offered. Usually if you are acting like her character and the guy I was dealing with, you got nothing.

Hopefully the story line will pick up. Last year set the mark and they have yet to get back to that level.

On another note: My wife pointed out this past episode (3) that they are acting like Midland to Fort Worth is just a short drive, no big deal. Its 300 miles and a solid 4 hours and change to drive. That's without traffic or construction.

Interesting point...is it supposed to be historically set in the past? I thought it was supposed to be current....

When I got my training, my employer (Shell) had recently been informed by the government that if any more employees died due to H2S, the executives were going to jail for criminal negligence.

Seems like there had been something like 4 cases of one guy falling over, the other running to go help and both die.....

The reaction (this was in the 1980's) was that anyone who came near H2S had to have the full training, Scott Airpack and all....and all beards and moustaches had to come off.

As for the other stuff, yeah - plant and field workers are not cut from the same cloth as us pussies in the office.
I remember visiting one remote drill site where the rather enterprising cook had set up a wonderful after dinner prostitution service, complete with hors d'oeuvres that was thriving due in no small part to her captive audience, the onsite abundance of cash and the absolute lack of morals.

My understanding is that the series is current Permian Basin life. Hence the phrase "This is the modern equivalent" in my post above. ^^

Lots of artistic embellishment to capture eyeballs but the general lifestyle of roughneck Texas oil men rings true.

It's a soap opera. But I like most of it. It's fun. The women are hot. Crazy, but hot (so that's realistic).

I don't like the son's girlfriend. The lady lawyer's tough girl act would likely not be successful. The cartels generally avoid the O&G companies, but I've heard from one client that they do steal vehicles in South TX.

The safety and operation details are fanciful. Might have happened like that 30-40 years ago, but no more. Safety, training, and robotics have improved a lot. Most oilfield fatalities are now car/truck wrecks, not wellsite fires and explosions (but they do happen, just not under the circumstances on the show).

But the rest of it isn't too far off the mark, just a concentrated amalgamation of the wild west that is the Oil and Gas industry.

"Demons run faster than rainbows." That's realistic too.
Many experience some version of it over the course of a life.
