This is a tough one.
Speaking of a "hypothetical guy" (not me) in a "hypothetical college", "I" couldn't imagine being dumped off in a place where one's roomate was not only using a bunch of drugs, but dealing piles of it....

If your son has already outted the parties (even if they weren't dealing large quantities of drugs), I would encourage him to put the pressure on the system that forced him to rat.

He's done his "part" (whatever that means) if he ratted. He can also express his concern that policy is a bunch of BS and now expects full witness protection and to be removed from the offending environment due to adhering to the "school" policy.

Just sharing a "hypothetical" scenario. Also, not knowing extent of details, all I can say is things can spiral quick-

No learning was going on, just plain fear, and in the end, it wasn't the Resident Assistants showing up, it was local law enforcement cuffing people up and on the local news. Guess what else happens when law enforcement shows up, they just start cuffing, and asking questions later.

Not saying this is happened to me (just hypothetical), or to the same degree in your son's case, but damnit, just thinking about such scenarios pisses me off, from both angles.

In my own hypothetical scenario, the "hypothetical" guy got through the year but found a different dorm/apartment to go to next semester. Still kept in touch with said group, but from a safe distance (or at least the ones that didn't get arrested)- but that didnt happen. It was all hypothetical.

And I'm not upset in the least since it never happened.

I'm applying for a "zoning adjustment permit" with the City of Phoenix to get my FFL. There are several, if not many, others in the neighborhood running businesses out of their homes or garages without this permit. And some of them result in plenty more delivery and customer traffic than I'd generate. I live across the street from the neighborhood Karen and she is making a fuss on my application. I don't know if she'll show at my hearing. If my app is denied, I will appeal, and I want to explain that others are running businesses with no permit and ask why I'm being denied, while they are ignored. But I don't want to bring any heat down on them.

Just the topic has to freak out the Karen at first blush. I don't really know what it could entail (surely benign) but I can picture what she is probably thinking. Good luck.

why would you go to a place that thinks its moral to kick people out for the actions of others?

that seems like a fundamental values incompatibility issue.

It sounds like zero tolerance and they don't care what you might be thinking.

Just saying, not arguing.

yeah, policies like this were popular in the early 2000s, and 1990s.

and we all should have learned how bad they were for everyone then.

if a school is willing to kick someone out, for what someone else has done, then that isnt a school worth going to. not to pull the money card, but why would you spend good money to go to such a school, to be kicked out through no fault or action of your own? thats just bad morality.

Well, these things do work themselves out sometimes . My son said, all was good in the hood yesterday . No bullying, no threats or ****ty comments from other students .
This morning, they expelled the perp. Good stuff.
Im not sure if he did the right thing or not. I guess in this situation , it worked out for him. Hopefully the guys buds do not harrass my son any , or Ill be on the first train to WVA to dish out some street justice lols .
This thread was not so much about my sons situation, but more or less about the social/moral obligation to snitch when you see someone running afoul of the law of the land .
Me, I pretty keep the policy of minding my own business.

Oh, and this school is 100 % free to him, funded by the federal government. He actually even collects a small pay check weekly for his duties on the campus .
Its a really good program for low income kids, and kids with disabilities , so its worth adhering to their rules . It is run somewhat like the military . They have uniforms, roll call at 6 am. They have work duties daily . No tolerance for shenanigans .

Glad it worked out for your son, he did the right thing. It's never inappropriate to deal with people like that. It's what makes us a 'civil' society.

Fred that is awesome! And your info in post #50 suggests to me he probably was thinking in the right direction. Was talking with a defense engineer and he told me so many students lose opportunities for clearances because of minor drug offenses and the like. Gotta stay clean to play with the people that print money.

Hope it works out. This situation is very different than the average undergrad dorm situation. It sounds like he did the right thing. Hopefully if he continues to have issues, they can relocate him if there are other options.

I was an RA for one year in the early 80's. That was enough, even though the pay was very good. Free room and board for the year. I went back to work before and after classes to avoid dealing with all of the crap that goes on in a dorm.

I generally avoid "snitching", but obviously would if required by my job or to protect someone's safety.

The rumor mill at school says random drug tests for a lot of students, anyone suspect , upon return from x mas break .
I pick him up tomorrow night .
I told him , he has the rest of his life to blaze if he so chooses . Don't fk this opportunity up . They help them get drivers licenses, and job placement in government positions upon graduation .
This is a good thing for him

I don't think it's ever a "bad" policy to "do what's right". It's often not the easiest route. Glad to hear that things seem to have improved.

Very nice. It seems like he's making the most of it by doing the right thing even if it's not the easiest thing.

Doing the right thing is always best in the long term even if the short term sucks a little.

Given the situation and details, he did the right thing.

The code serves as the foundation for building character and integrity in graduates. This is especially applicable to those that will be military leaders.

My Daddy didn't go to an academy, but he was a career officer, and a UVA graduate. He instilled that same code of conduct Seahawk cited in all his children. I believe that code has served me well.

integrity and character are not things other people define about you, they are about who you are. other people's actions don't define your character or your integrity. those actions define their integrity, and their character.

Sounds like an excellent program for your son . If he can keep it going it can potentially set him up for life . You did good dad
