I’m a wanted man by the Feds…

We are visiting Niagara Falls, with little Rocket man and his Korean girlfriend, and went to the Canadian side during the day, to see the falls from their side. The cold and fog from dreary weather, obscured everything. We left, took a nap at the hotel and then to dinner.

After dinner, we were hoping the weather lifted to see the falls with lights. The American side had no lights, so we headed back to the Canadian side for a look. It was socked in, so we headed back to the US again.

At the American side, it was taking longer than usual, and after several minutes, the guard ask for James’ last four SS numbers. We said there were two James in the car, so which one? He showed my passport and I answered. A couple minutes later, he said I was good but should start carrying my SS card as more ID.

Apparently, there is someone with my name, that is wanted by the feds. He wouldn’t tell me what for. We had a good laugh.

Better learn some Spanish for when you end up in El Salvador. "No quero ser tu novia," is a good first phrase, haha

One of my friends was standing at the counter at a pawn shop looking at buying a revolver. He said all of a sudden there was an arm under each of his arms, and he was going backwards right into a police cruiser, handcuffed. He of course asked WTF is going on. They said he was wanted for bank robbery in Florida. He protested he had never even been to Florida. Someone with his exact same name was the bank robber, and the bank robber was a black man. The police read the warrant, and saw the description, and only the name was the same. They of course released him right away.

He went back in an bought the pistol he had been asking about.

My brother was active in the Archery club in Alabama. One day he was shaking hands with a man, and introduced himself. The other guy was a cop, and kept a firm grim on my brother's hand. He said you are under arrest. My brother of course asked why and it was for domestic abuse. He said his wife was right beside them, ask he if there was any abuse. Once again, it was a case of same name, different person.

I don’t plan on carrying my SS card. I don’t want to lose it. Unless they actively seek me out, by mistake, I’ll carry on as normal.

Do not carry your SS card no matter what they say. Memorize it. Save it on your phone as an inconspicuous contact that only you and your wife know.

Lol! A few years ago when I volunteered to entertain at the care home which is my MIL's residence, they gave me the papers to request a vulnerable sector record check from the RCMP. No problem until a week later the local office called to ask me to come in for fingerprints. Turns out there is a guy with the same name who has been a naughty boy. I first learned of him over 40 years ago when I was trying to get a furnace repair guy to come to the house we had just bought.

Best

Well you were certainly acting suspiciously going back and forth over a border... Ya know, some lame excuse like we were fogged in.

There's a Michael Johnson out there that shares my birth date - but one of us ISN'T wanted for something bad.

Passport Control's so much fun that I always allow two additional hours inbound through MSP or ATL. IDK who this other Michael is, but he must be very much _not_ a middle-aged mild-mannered 5'8" white dude. Typically once the third level of supervisor arrives and does some supervisor-keystrokes they look at the screen, at me, at the screen, laugh and send me on my way.

Even when I was in ALL of the databases indicating that the gubm't trusted me pretty well.

coming back from a fly in trip several years ago, they grabbed my friend, Jim Long, as soon as they ran his passport. Off to a room with two very large officers at the Winni airport. I followed a few minutes later to ask if he was ok. Very large officer told me to move on. Apparently, they were looking for a James Long and grabbed him. I asked if he looked like their quarry, the officer laughed and said not at all.

Jim appeared in the waiting area a few minutes later. He told us that they showed him a pic of the other James Long who was about the size of a Defensive end and Black. Jim was pale white and skinny as a rail. We all had a good laugh, but it was worrisome when it happened. They explained, that though it was obviously a different guy, they had to run him.

What are recent SS cards made of? If we are supposed to be carrying them all the time they must be made differently than they used to be. Mine is 61 years old, and made of plane heavy paper. If I had been carrying it for 61 years, it would be an unidentifiable scrap by now. I'm not going to start carrying it. I can probably buy a duplicate down on the corner, though.

I got a replacement SS card a few years, as I couldn’t find my original. It’s with the important papers in s safe place.

Don’t they say not to carry the SS card?

I don’t think this was how SS system was meant to be implemented…

I don’t see how it would be a great form of ID, as there is no picture. He didn’t ask for my drivers license.

Remember when the bank suggested you put your SSN on your checks?
Remember checks?

I think Minnesota used to put your SSN on your driver's license.

I'm in almost as good a situation as Wolfe - there's only three of me in the US and we all have different middle names. There's only three people with my wife's first and last name as well, the thing is, one of them our back yards almost touch. She's my second cousin's daughter. A year ago one of my wife's friends sent her a Christmas present. She googled her address and it ended up going to the wrong one.

One of the other mes must have a very similar email address to me, as his wife has signed up for stuff and the email goes to me. It's all junk mail, maybe she's doing it on purpose. Maybe my email is in some sort of marketing database somewhere.
