Anything interesting to do in the motor city ?

Im trying to nab a Peterbuilt up there next weekend . I drag my poor kid with me for all my zany adventures . I always attempt to throw somethign interesting or fun in for us if we are going long distance .
Ill probably drive up at night and get a room, nab the truck in the am, then find something to do for the day and head back under the cover of night because I like to avoid johnny officer, they seem really agressive in Ohio
Last time I was there, roughly 2006, picking up 2 Porsches, we were approached by prostitues, and a drug dealer at 6:30 in the morning waiting for a car lot to open , good times .

But really, i don’t think anyone really does anything in Detroit. Suburbs or Ohio…..

I would hit up a casino, baseball game or the whole Ford museum and/or factory tour.

I would go if it were closer. It's a 3 hour drive from my place. It would help if you were a Tiger or Lion fan.

Sorry, that's small of me. There's probably a lot of cool things in that city from a bygone era but it's a place I will never set foot in based on its current state.

You could stop at Dearborn and hit the Henry Ford Museum.

Wow, some of you guys are SO well informed...

Downtown is a great place to walk and shop, with many new shops and restaurants; along the Woodward corridor from Jefferson north is a great pedestrian area now. You also have a great walk along the river front. Other cool areas are the Eastern Market and Mid-Town. If the Tigers are playing, Comerica Park is one of the nicest baseball venues in the country. You also should take drive to Belle Isle Park (in the Detroit River), especially if the weather is nice. The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village (about 20 minutes from downtown) in Dearborn are must see if you have the time, or also the Rouge Factory tour (as mentioned above).

Every city has something good to offer, including this one. Sometimes you just need to know where to look (as things are always changing).

My son and I would totally love ubran exploring . Ive wanted to do that for ever. I just dont know where to go, I dont need to get in a gang fight or arrested for trespassing .

I love how people have literally never been to Detroit spew their 1980s crack war ideas about Detroit. There is a Whole Foods in downtown Detroit. I personally think The Henry Ford Museum is a 'don't miss'. So much cool stuff to see. Great food too!

Ford Museum was good. It was great to see the LeMans winning GT40 of Foyt & Gurney.

I haven't been to Detroit in 20 years, but I was told by a friend who lived there at that time that he was actually told by police officers mot to stop at red lights at night in downtown. Just come to a stop, make sure it's safe, and roll on through. It was really, really weird to see an abandoned 20-story highrise, with every window broken out. To have an entire downtown like that. Totally post-apocalyptic.

Detroit is a brownfields… A very depressing city that even the automakers are trying to outsource the last of the factories… Sad as it’s the first city to reach and lose a million residents…


While they have redone the entire downtown within the last decade, the true nature of the city is very evident as the condemned neighborhoods are literally across the street from the reinvigorated areas… car carcasses in the front yards of burnt out houses are my favorite sites to see… drugs and murder are very high. LE find a lot of execution style homicides to this very day.

PS. The places you mention are outside of Detroit. but you know that.

The city is radically different from what it was when you were last there.
