I found it!! the worst smell (for me)
several days ago, I caught a halibut. gutting it, I thought to myself, "this is the worst smelling fish guts I have ever encountered - maybe shouldn't be doing this in my kitchen!". it truly smelled like the interior of a wild turkey. like someone spilled lots of blood inside of a barn, and then took a dump..
I tossed it all into my garbage bin...wrapped up tight and put it into my gray bin outside. then, it got WARM!! it went mid 90's one day. I went to toss another small bag, and WOOOOFFFFF!! the flies, the smell...I swear it got into my mouth!! WOW!! I rolled it to the curb, quickly. coming back from work ,I get out of my truck happy the mess now belongs to the city. but the smell was worse. I peek into the bin and there was an inch of brown fluid inside. my bag has burst!!!. hahahha.. I hosed out the bin, and I ended the street basketball game going on a few doors down. the kids side-eyed me..I waved apologetically..and held my breath for about 10 minutes (joking) while I blasted the mess out.. it got on my shoes, my driveway..splashed my face a tiny bit... catch and release has its benefits.

Bleach will kill the smell. I've had to clean a few dumpsters.

Couple years ago walking a nice long beach in Oregon we started getting whiffs of something very very strong, turned out to be a dead whale.
Truly truly horrible and yet I had to go look, from upwind! Anything dead outside is the worst smell possible, and fresh barf. Hate that too!!

Our male dachshund was sprayed by a skunk, TWICE!
Of course he came running in the house through the doggie door. I grabbed him before he could roll on the floor. We had the skunk stink ingredients on hand, and cleaned him up as best as possible. The first time he was sprayed on the his chest, so easy to clean. The second time was right in his face. It is pretty hard to really scrub on the dachshund's face. We gave him two rounds of the skunk stink remover, and the next day we took him to a dog groomer for a spa day so she could kill the stink. The skunk stink makes your nose numb, and hard to smell the stench. We would notice when we left for several hours a lingering stink upon return. And yea, wh hired a skunk removal man. I got a "guy" to set traps at the nest site across the street, He said there were some kits in there as well. We caught them all, and I filled that hole with two bags of quickcreete. He to them "to the farm" and gassed them with nitrogen. No one at all wants a skunk released in their area.

A coworker had his first job at a fish plant. I suppose his first job at the facility was part initiation, as they sent him down to the space under the cleaning and skinning floor to shovel out the bits and pieces that built up under there. He admitted he was sick a couple of times, but toughed it out. I almost barfed hearing him describe it.

Dead octopus.
One of the first octopus we ever caught amazed us by how long it stayed alive out of water… but when it died, woooo boy! What a stench. You could smell it 100 yards away. Pewie! I recall disposing of it and then hosing out the back of the truck, washing with bleach and hosing again. Still stunk. Like a dead octopus at the swimming pool.

I can relate. 20 years ago I went red snapper fishing in the Gulf of MEXICO off Newport, Texas. The charter guy filleted my catch and shipped it home to my office in Ohio - without any placarding that it was perishable. It arrived on Friday and my secretary put the box on my office chair. I got back the following Wednesday. Had to throw the chair away.

Story time.
My Dad worked for the Corps of Engineers. Worked with a fellow who had a good middle class ++ job who was a member of a minority group. He earned far more than most of his peers. He wanted to live with his people so he lived in a less than ideal neighborhood where his people lived. His income afforded him a nice truck and a very nice ocean going boat. But having nicer things than his peers, he was victimized by constant thieving, which pissed him off to no end. He also loved to catch fish in the Pacific. He caught a fair amount of some sort of fish on a particular day. It happened to be garbage day and in the Summer. He didn't want the mess to stink up his trash like Vash had. So he put it into a bag and then a box and then gift wrapped it. He put the box into the bed of his truck and drove to the local quickie mart and slowly shopped for some post-fish trip beers. He noticed someone snooping around his truckbed and poked his head out the store to yell at them to stay away. The wrapped box (containing fish guts) was quickly grabbed. He made some more comments out the door "come back! Hey! I need that!" You get the idea. The thief only ran faster and farther. My Dad's co-worker then bought his beer as he had something to really celebrate. I hope y'all enjoy this as much as I do. I heard this story way back in the early 1970's when it happened. I still am highly amused... |

Houston 1997. Big ice storm that killed electricity for days. Frozen chicken in boss' garage freezer melted and he called me over to help clean it out. It was not even high heat but the worst I have smelled.
I hope the rotting human, whale or octopus smell would miss me in this lifetime.

Get off my lawn!
|
On my way to work at my first job, I drove right next to a cotton gin, a utility pole creosote plant, that was next door to a pickle plant. Several nasty stinks.
One of the worst has to be a paper pulp plant. They reek from many miles away.

I found it!! the worst smell (for me)
At my last colonoscopy, as they rolled me into the room, a noticed a lot of likely scented candles. I was already on the relax my mood happy juice, but I asked the cute nurse, if the candles were to set a romantic mood, and if they were going to put on some Barry White music. she said of course, as soon as you are under, we all have a romantic moment.
