Tsunami warning. West coast beaches.

A big earthquake on the Eastern side of Russia.

Looks like Hawaii is bracing for trouble.

Yikes. Portland is 90 miles or so upriver from the Pacific. But the river moves with the tide. A big wave will come to me.

Watching a live feed with commentary and not much is happening so, good for the people of Hawaii, and hope it remains a non-event.

It always amazes me when such an event occurs. An earthquake 3000 or so miles away can create enough energy to send a wave across that great distance without (generally) losing all of that energy.

I'm glad that everything is apparently going to be ok.

I'd rather the authorities err on the side of caution! I'm sure it's been a ****show, but to not act 'as if' would be criminal.

Back in the late 60s or early 70s when we lived in Hawaii there was a Tsunami warning issued. Thousands of people went to the beach just to see it. It came in but was just a foot tall, and pretty much just brought in trash and seaweed.

I suspect after the Japan Tsunami and all the coverage of that, people now mostly are on high alert, and head to higher ground.

Around here, we are 100% tsunami safe.

Until you're not. But when you are in danger from a tsunami, you may as well go for a ride or have a beer in your yard or something.

The 2011 Japan tsunami was a devastation that was mind boggling, a lot like the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, but I feel like the one in Japan was documented better (lots more video). Watching the videos and seeing the after-effects provoked waves (NPI) of emotions.

Good test and rehearsal.

I guess some people may now be inclined to ignore the next tsunami warning, but I don't care. Darwin lives, they die, coastal property goes up for sale to those who had sense.

Trying to understand why multiple dead whales are washing up on beaches in Japan?

Fear mongering. Low tide is 2x a day. News agencies projected the time of first waves within 20 minutes. Did they mention anything of the tides? Nope. Just that the waves *could be* up to 5 meters. Locally it was 1.2m.

Seems like noaa talking heads are trying to justify their existence, while the rest of the world is coming back to the real science.

Never say never. The Chicxulub crater flooded N. America.

There are videos from Russia showing the tsunami hitting parts of Russia and causing damage. And the warning was a great test of the system.
