Think the police are more likely to pull someone over in a Porsche?
Or any other perceived " status symbol " type vehicle ??
We got followed home last night by the police . I took my lady friend and my young son out for some cool indoor mini golf, and we ended up doing a late dinner . My lady had one beer, I had none. We left the establishment right about 1 am, and I mentioned to her that it is a holiday weekend, and I was taking the back roads home to avoid the next 3 small towns, where Jonnny law , would surely be out salivating at the prospect of handing out DUI's and other infractions at that hour on a Saturday night, on a holiday weekend . What do you know? I pick up the local cop on the back roads . That son of a gun, rode my bumper the entire way throughout his jurisdiction . A good 12 miles or so . Its crazy how you can be 100% legal, sober, and they still make you nervous . I hate that feeling, trying to keep it right at the speed limit and do not dare, swerve or do anything else remotely curious My lady said they have no reason to pull you over, you were not speeding and you are not swerving. I told her " they will just make up a reason and there is no way he is not lighting us up at some point " We were in my Macan. He follows us, pretty much right to the border of that municipality , and as I have my left turn signal on. I was surprised to see him light up his right signal and go the other way . The rest of the way home, I was wondering if it was my superior driving skills , or my clean driving record, and criminal record, or was he just leaving me alone because I was in a shiny poser Porsche car, and maybe gave the impression of a person with his schtuff together . Life is funny, you are almost always just a few bad decisions away from altering the course of your life . Had I decided to have 2 beers with dinner, the outcome could have been a lot different . I bet, if had I been in a work truck or my beater Volvo wagon with hippy band and surf decals on the back , the chain of events would have been altered . What do you think goes through a coppers head in situations like this ?

In a small town where the cops don't have much to do, the local cop followed me right to the driveway, then drove past. Leaving a few minutes later, at the first corner, he was right on my bumper again until reaching town limits. Complete stops, turn signals, everything by the book. There used to be a small building next to the local highway used Tuesdays and Thursdays for traffic court. Red cars were by far the most common color there. Sometimes half or more. |

It's luck. Not only will they make up a reason to pull you, if they want they'll charge you with DUI even if you blow a 0.0

Yup. They'll say you were under the influence of something else.

Recently I was going for a small drive around the bays and next thing I knew there was a police car following me VERY closely. So I went to the dog pound to buy some doggy poo bags and chatted for quarter of an hour. When I came out the cop was still there and followed me again. I stayed 10kmh under the limit everywhere and he didn't ferk off until someone came ripping by in the other direction.
Probably trying to get even with me for winning when they took me to court over a minor driving offense. |

Years ago I was driving on a local freeway situated inside a horse shoe shaped formation of cars all traveling the speed limit in my '72 911E. A police car pulled up behind me and followed for a while and turned on his lights. I pulled over, and he stopped behind me, came up to the passenger side open window and complimented me on the car & stuck his head inside. I erupted in a loud voice saying, WTF, is that why you stopped me?" He did some backpeddling and ended up apologizing and I left. Pissed me off.

They ran your plate and waited for you make a traffic infraction. Reasonable articulate suspicion a crime has been committed is what they are going for. Driving too close to the fog line is enough.
Phoenix PD will fish and simply pull one over for a burnt out license plate light (even if it wasn’t) and start fishing.

1 AM on a holiday weekend , they’re probably following everybody. Especially bored cops out in BFE. Your nice car may have actually helped as it doesn’t meet the profile for someone that makes stupid life decisions. Watch some of the live police shows, they typically aren’t finding a backpack full of meth pulling over nice cars.

+1. If one has an expensive car, they usually can hire an attorney. There’s easier fish to catch elsewhere .

I used to get pulled over occasionally in the G Body 911, but almost never in the 993 or 997. It may just be I am getting older and less prone to speeding. I almost always knew why I got stopped

I think they are less likely to pull a Porsche over. Not that it can't/won't/doesn't happen, but I think it's less likely than some other stuff. I think most folks are most likely to get a warning in one too.

My morning commute is 84 miles. I get up at 4 and am at work by 530. I think the drive usually takes me about an hour. When I get on the freeway the speed limit is 75, and I set me cruise at 83. About half of my commute has the speed limit down at 60 or 65 (same freeway just "in town"). I leave my cruise set at 83 the entire way. I've run into cops twice. Both times, I didn't realize it. I realized a car was on my rear (I run a V1 so no radar going), so I put my signal on, sped up and moved over and slowed back down. Both times it was a cop, and both times they blipped their lights beside me and then went on their way. Both times I was running around 80 (the SL was only 60) and had sped up to ~90 just to move over.

When someone (especially a LEO) is hugging your bumper, you are more likely to be paying too much attention to the rear view mirror. If you don't maintain proper speed or accidentally run over the painted on the right side of the road, they have probable cause to pull you over and do a fishing expedition. An honest officer will sniff in the window, look around the inside, ask a few questions and then tell you to have a nice evening and be careful. The other kind, well you know the drill...
Pulling cars over in deserted places in the middle of the night is no fun for the officer. If they pull over a fugitive, wanted felon, or just someone with a revoked license who has a weapon and an attitude then bad things can happen. The officer wants to finish their shift and go home to their family. Once the lights come on, you don't have any control over what kind of person is behind the badge. What you can do is not make things worse for yourself. Don't be a Internet Rambo and make things worse for yourself.

Wait, what, there is a 1:00 AM?
I can't even remember the last time I was even up at 1:00 AM,much less driving. Way too many drunk, stoned or distracted drivers out at that time. I have only been pulled over in my 911 once, and the cop said there was a report of a "white late model 911 stolen" I replied, sir this is a 1985 model. Then he wanted to see my engine and interior. It took 5 minutes, and I was on my way.
