Why I have little faith in our education system

This morning, school drop off for my 8 year old . I take the 997, as monsoon season here in lovely Pa has finally come to an end .
As soon as I pull up the the curb area, the vice principle is frantically waving his hands at us .
Im nursing a mild hangover this morning, and still a bit foggy, but Im wondering what I have done wrong? I surely was not speeding. Now thoughts are going through my head about what infraction my son has possibly commited
We pull up to the drop off, only to find out he just wanted to compliment my " Alfa " . He started going on about how much he loves Alfa Romeo, and how much time he had spent in one as a young man . " Alfa Romeo, so classy "
I know my values are slightly skewed, but .... Im not sure I want my son being educated by someone who cannot differentiate beteween an Alfa, and a Porsche .
I just smiled and thanked him . My 8 year old , could most likely school this guy on anything auto related
This clip is all I could think of while extiting the school lot

This post was for entertainment only . I think us car guys are a dying breed

Its a weird Venn diagram intersection of: 1. people in the US that are familiar with the brand Alfa Romeo 2. People who cannot identify a 911

well if they aren't sure how to tell a boy from a girl I gotta figure it follows they struggle with cars too.

the good news is somebody else in the world at least had an interest in vehicles. with a gas motor too!

In a world full of people driving soulless crossovers, it’s nice to meet anyone even casually interested in cars.

Even though I know that there are TONS (the majority) of people that are car-clueless, it always surprises me when I meet someone that seems THAT clueless.

As others have stated, at least he was enthusiastic about something interesting.

I've had a few miatas, and had the optional hard top. At least once, I had someone ask if it was a Ferrari.

I can only assume that it's been so long that he confused the logos, and didn't look closely enough to see that one says "Porsche". LOL!

Bless his heart.

I sometimes forget that a huge percentage of the population can't tell one car from the next, and couldn't care less either. Sadly. Merely an appliance to many folks, and that's fine...at least he complimented the car, even if he didn't correctly identify it!

If I ask or say anything even slightly knowledgeable about a car guys act all dismissive. I really don't get why this happens. Perhaps they think I'm trying to be a know-it-all.
I learned long ago it's best to mis-brand their car, comment on the color, or ask, "does that thing have a hemi in it?" no matter what it is. Then they'll want to talk.

...Heck, I'm not even supposed to know anything about my car.

When I met my now wife in 2001, one of the first things she said to me upon seeing my car ('86 911 at the time) was "that one is air-cooled, right?". We've been together ever since.

My daughter has a friend group who insist on calling P-cars "Porch" or something. She has given up on them.

They wouldn't know an Alfa if it ran over them.

Weird encounter Fred. I think Shaun hit it on the head. A hangover...

One my first date with my now wife, she said she was driving a Mercedes 190 with a 5 speed. Her dad taught her to listen to the car, and funny noises are NOT to be ignored. She could change a tire on cars of that era. Now with 22 inch tires, it is beyond her strength.

Anyway, she drives a Porsche as her daily driver. She know more about cars than most men born in this millennium.

Your reply made me really-and-truly laugh. See, a little over a year ago I met this guy playing pool. We got to talking, and he mentioned he went to Cal State. I realized he wasn't talking college when he mentioned he was there for ten years. ...It's a Florida thing.

Yes, I would blame it on a continuing failure of our education system. In the 60s, we were never taught the difference between a Studebaker and an Oldsmobile. Had to learn that stuff outside.
