What aircraft do you choose and why?

I would like a B1A because it can get me places fast! If it has to be a consumer jet, I'll take a Concorde.

Not sure I’d really care to own a jet that forces me to be near airfields. I think I’d want something like an mh53. Big and multiple engines, long range and can put me down whereever.

Need a big boat for it though and if my neighbors were cool like me they would hate the noise and get my helicopter pad shut down.

Why mess around with anything else? Took a 2 hr chartered joyride with a friend and 200 others as his retirement flight from United in the year 2000 (pre 9/11). We flew from SFO, out over Yosemite, turned north to the OR border, and then south along the CA coast as the sun was setting. Forever grateful to Captain Larry.

Big airplanes need big runways.

I would have an airplane that does not require two pilots so I can fly myself into short runways away from the big cities.

The heavy jets can only land at airports that have long runways and air stairs designed for giant jets.
Even the rich Saudis' would fly their 747 into SAN and then hop on a smaller jet to get around the country.

Pilatus PC-12 or a Socata/Daher TBM-930 if 'turbo-prop-jets' apply here. Fast and long range.

Or something smaller like a P-82 or P-38 trainer retro'ed with the same. Same. But less room and acrobatics.

Or just a Lancair Legacy if lightweight and local use.

I'm not sure my fantasy airplane exists. I'd like something amphibious, twin jet, and smaller - kinda like a Grumman-Goose-sized Beriev BE-200. Or maybe a "new" Grumman Goose with a turboprop conversion.

I've heard Air Force and ex-Air Force pilots say the most fun they ever had was flying the T-38.
Wanting to fly myself, I'd take that, or the single seat version, the F-5:

Part of me is thinking . . . B58 Hustler (fastest bomber ever, excepting maybe some Russian bomber I don’t know about) or Concorde (fastest airliner ever). I wouldn’t need to carry more than the family, a manservant, and a poisontaster - doesn’t everyone have one? - but I’d want room for a couple sleeping cabins and maybe a little office.

Big fan of the 360! Great if staying domestic and doing short haul. Amazing airplane.

If going across an Ocean, Global 7500/8000 but 10-12 times the cost but they can cruise above .90M. However, if in a stream on a route going oceanic, you may be restricted by the speed of the AC in front...

We have considered a C208 Caravan or a K100 Kodiak for Africa duty. The Caravan is widely used there and well, everywhere. The Kodiak is a little smaller, same performance and just as rugged and durable.

The PC12, any of the TBMs, 600 onwards are amazing airplane. Beechcraft has the new Denali out now as well with almost the same performance as the PC12.

The EPIC E1000 is a newer player in the single turbo prop game. We have one come in and out of our airspace here somewhat regularly. A little quicker than a PC12 or a Denali.

Many of the Apollo astronauts were active duty pilots. They were supplied a personal T-38 to keep up hours. Just fly yourself from Houston to Florida or wherever they wanted to go. Free fuel, free maintenance, and get paid to do it.

One of our customers came in and was fascinated with our 4 foot by 8 foot wall of airplane photos. He said he joined the Army Air corp in 1945, stationed in San Diego, and was through basic training in the P-51. They basically tossed him the key to a new P-51 and said go build hours. He was 21 years old, and his favorite pastime was flying in low over a fancy sailboat that only rich folks had. Just as he cleared the mast, he would pull up at full throttle and usually blow the boat over on it's side. He was gone straight ahead so they could not get a tail number. He just laughed. He said years later he did start to feel guilty, but the kid in him still laughed.
