Do you ever describe yourself as “old”?

I have just recently started doing it. I’ll be 62 years old next month and have been retired for 4 years. A couple of weeks ago at our local CrossFit gym, a younger person, female, lifted the same weights I did, jumped as many jump ropes too and did as many V-ups AND beat my time. Granted she’s only 46 but it was still humbling. I don’t feel old but that experience reminded me that I am old.

Sure. 66.

Not a cripple but definitely slower, worse balance, weaker, everything hurts, stiff after sitting for any length of time, can't touch my toes, it's a long list.

Gotta get around to battling some of this.

I turned 82 today...wtf do you think? And...I am a cripple! Sitting here wondering why there's anything to celebrate. Can't come up with anything. Maybe be happy I'm still cognizant?

Actually kind of funny at my last checkup...the RN said she was going to say 3 words that she wanted me to recall later...I said; "Are you going to use Bed-Sock-Blue like you used last time? Her expression was a hoot! Gawd, you'd think they could at least change the tests a bit.

(edit) Tomorrow, some time spent in outpatient therapy at the local hospital with a young (To me...mid 30's) PT named Kendra...hopefully that'll pick up my spirits a bit. In a funky mood right now.

Nope.

70.

Can’t believe it.

Door bell rings every morning.

I do not let the old man in.

Wednesday is seniors' discount day at our local grocery store. You have to identify your status to the cashier. My wife laughs and says, "And we're old." My hair is gray but I still enjoy life. Will be getting my skates sharpened in a week or so and get back on the ice with my granddaughter.
Last weekend I spoke with a 91 year old cousin who declared me to be "just a kid" at 20 years younger than himself.

When I cannot hear the apprentice/students in the classroom, I will say "One more time for the old deaf guy in the room".

At 83, I know I'm old but still trying to deny it - up to a point. In some ways I don't feel old, but what really shocks me into reality is looking in the mirror. I still get around OK but notice balance isn't what it used to be and aerobic capacity has gone way down. I took a four mile hike with my wife yesterday, which was nice but doing less of that kind of thing as time goes on. I've sort of gotten comfortable with saying I'm old.

You got beat by a girl too? check out the bike thread.

No not old, but getting there, 60 net year. Refuse to get there so keep up the exercise. once stopped, it takes some time to get back into fitness. Sucks

Only in jest, I will call myself a geezer. Don't call me a senior citizen!

I will be 71 in a few days according to my birth certificate. I am 19 in my mind, but my brain is still about 14. My body disagrees, but I refuse to believe it.

I'm 60 and starting to feel it. Still here and relevant but I don't have a purpose right now. I hope that changes soon.

Been there. Most guys don’t realize how far they’ve slipped because day to day life doesn’t expose your lowering performance ceiling. Then you go to a CrossFit gym and as you are doing 10 burpees, 10 pull-ups and 10 air squats you look over and half the group is finishing the air squats as you finish your burpees and it doesn’t seem humanly possible. I still Crossfit at 59 but I do my own weights and own rep schemes (read that as LESS) and it works for me. I’m fit for my age, which is all you can really compete against. Youthful engines, male or female, will bury a fit older guy in short order. It’s really not fair.

My summer project was demolishing and replacing my second story deck. Trying to stand up 20 ft 6x6’s by myself took it out of me. It took me three months and I lost a good 15 lbs.. At 73 I don’t think I’ll be doing things like that again. I feel pretty old. And yes…. I call myself old.

66 and about to turn 67. Never thought I would be here, but here I am. In my mind, I’m young, but my body no longer does what I expect it to.

Lately I’ve noticed, people holding doors for me.

My dad used to say when you’re young, you unzip the fly and zip it back up when you’re finished. When you’re older, you unzip it, but forget to zip it back up. When you’re really old, you don’t unzip it at all.

I’m at the unzip it and forget to zip it back up stage. Happened to me today!😂

I only call myself old as a joke. I don't feel old but things are starting to creak a bit from time to time.

I think I'm the youngest person to respond to this thread so far at a very young 55.

Happy birthday Paul, I’m happy you’re still cognizant!

I’m 45, I only feel old when I visit my daughter on campus.

Here in NZ lots of places give discounts to people over 65. So I say "Geriatrics discount thanks."
