Removing the rear fender with WD 40, I don't think so. WD 40 is good but not that good. Removing the rear fender will require a good sawzall or a cutting torch. I would suggest masking off the the painted areas you do not want to damage.

Seriously, I look at WD 40 like any other solvent it is probably not good for paint in the long run and it should be removed as soon as possible.

I wouldn't have thought that bird poop would be more corrosive than WD40 but I guess it is. I learned to get that stuff off double time quik or it f**ks up my paint.

I wouldn't do anything other than take some pictures. Then, call your insurance company. The car may have to be written off as a complete loss.

Due to the severity of the damage of the caustic combination of chemicals known as WD-40, I think that the car should be covered in a combination of baking soda (to soak up the wd-40) and Lemon Pledge (to bring back the shine) let it sit for a couple hours and then wipe with a warm, soapy sponge. It should be good as new! (just be careful not to get any pledge on your skin-oooh that's nasty!)

I have used WD-40 to remove tar spots and many other kinds of unwanted stuff from car paint.

I've used WD-40 on oxidized paint before, does a surprisingly good job of removing oxidized paint. I wouldnt reccommend having it for too long on a good finish though. Just soak up as much of ti as possible, then wash the car with dish soap.

This is good (also from the WD-40 website):

Which of course means that Pierre's son should have used duct tape on that fender, not WD-40!

Well, from the responses it looks like wipe it off, wash with like normal... and that's it. Maybe wax.

Lots of people, myself included, use WD-40 to remove the residue from racers tape after track events. Its harmless, just use a little soap and water to rid yourself of the greasy film it leaves.

This reminds me of the time I sprayed WD-40 on the linkage of a carb. on one of those drag style boats-Big huge ass engine type. The owner got pissed because I did not use the red tube stating that to much wd-40 would make it worse-HUH?

I think Pierre should have an idea not to worry about the WD40 accident by now

Most of the guys that reacted "harsh" also hang out on 'nuther BBS, where we usually don't take each other or ourselves too serious

I bet none of us tried to chase Pierre away, or make him feel unwelcome...

Pierre,

I know lots of folks told you how to do it, but if it was my 8 year old boy, HE would be the one cleaning it off even if it took us all day. That way he will remember why this is not done.

You know, I think Pierre might be in Canada or perhaps France. You wonder why residents of foreign countries think Americans are so boorish. I reiterate: There have been recent posts here about removing gasket sealant with WD-40. Certainly seems plausible to me that someone who is unfamiliar with all things automotive could have concerns. No slack here apparently. I sure hope I never get what he got for a trivial question. I'm running scared of saying the wrong thing. Too bad. Sort of lets the wind out of the sails as far as Pelican 911BBS goes.
