Corky in the yard yesterday...

Here's Corky, the growth on his right ear is a tumor, he's got another tumor that's killing him, but he's pain-free and enjoying the time he has left with us...

I gotta post an updated photo, especially since Tucker (the rhodie) and Frankie (the setter mix) are smiling. Ben in the middle is predictably nervous:

Visited my mother today, and got some sad news. Her dog Dozen, who we got when I was 18, is being put down tomorrow. Dozen’s arthritis has worsened to the point where she isn’t able to get up without help, and in the past couple of weeks it’s become obvious that she is in pain.

When Dozen was just a puppy, she’d sleep in my room curled up on the pillow beside me. More recently, my wife and I took care of Dozen when my mother went to the North West Territories for two years.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1185151823.jpg

Dozen is a neighbourhood dog. My mother lives on a small, dead end road with great neighbours. Every morning at 7, Dozen gets let out. She goes straight to the house of the retired couple next door, where she jumps on to the bed and stays there until they get up at about 11am. Then she goes to the other neighbour’s until about 5pm when my mother gets home. A charmed life; if only every dog was loved as much as this one.

Here's Dozen & I with my mother's neighbor. Dozen spends ~40% of her time at his place.

RIP Dozen, you will be missed.

Jake,
I am sorry to read about your pet, it's very hard to lose them, isn't it?

Thanks Art. It's very tough. Although Dozen is really my mother's dog, we got her when I was 18 and she was my first dog. Mom got her when she spilt up with my stepfather.

5 years ago when my wife and I first lived together, we had Dozen for two years while my mother lived up north. We had 3 dogs in the house! Dozen was the queen mother, and ruled the roost.

The good news is my wife is friends with a vet, and he's coming to mom's house today to put Dozen down. That way the neighbors can come over too. I'm headed over there in 20 minutes.

I'm at work tearing up at the thought of it. She is a good girl

Jake, that's really tough. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of a companion so dear to so many.

I lost a dog about 2 months ago. It was the most attached I've ever been to a pet and I've had plenty over the years. Yesterday while getting some stuff for our other dog at the local PetSmart we found and adopted a dog that had spent several months in the pound and then was rescued from the pound before they put her down by someone from the local Humane Society. She's still pretty nervous, but is super sweet with licks for everyone. She looks like a stocky German Shepherd pup and only weighs about 30 pounds. They think she's probably about 2 years old so is full size.

This is Angel

Here's the newest addition.. Scout the 90 LB poodle

Here is a pic of Scout -

We picked him up 2 weeks ago from a lady who does rescue work with the Poodle Club of WA. 3 years old, and with the exception of a fatty Cyst that the Club paid to have removed for us he's perfect. Even fully trained - no issues. ...

Greyhounds are such nice dogs.

A friend of mine had one for a few months, but his big fluffy cat looked WAY too much like the "rabbit" the greyhound had spent his whole life chasing.
Didn't end well.

rammstein 10-24-2007 07:57 AM

We got lucky- she seems entirely unconcerned with small fluffy things. There's a lot of feral cats around here, and they will run by in front of her, and I swear it has no more effect on her than a blowing leaf would. At the pet store, we walked by the rabbit cage and no reaction. The only thing she runs for is to catch other dogs. Which she does very quickly, and then hangs her head in front of them trying to taunt them into running faster.

She also doesn't seem to understand her breed, as she fell in love with a Boston Terrier. She swoons like a teenaged girl for Brad Pitt or something. It is pathetic.

Ramm, I had an old friend that had two Greyhound rescue dogs and they both were (if the term isn;t too gay - not that there;s anything wrong with it) \"lovely" dogs. Calm and even tempered. Sweet really. Are they pretty much all that way?

goat 11-16-2007 09:02 AM

Yep one of favorite threads.
Almost adopted a greyhound a while back, they are very sweet dogs.
